***OKIES in the BYC III ***

When you say temp is constant.... how old are they and how warm is the area they are in?  They need a light.  They need enough room to get away from the light in case they feel hot.

That being said... I had one set of guineas I hatched out, they all died one by one like that.  The eggs had been very dirty, with many rotten ones I had to remove during incubation.  So my natural conclusion is that the keets that had made it had gotten a bacterial yolk sac infection from the soiling on the eggs, which leads to a slow death by about 1 week.

The temp is 90-95•, they have a light, they have room in the brooder they dye when they are 3-4 days old! Only 1 in about 10 dye. Guinea eggs are dirty! so, I wash them and disinfect them before putting them in the incubator . I keep the bator disinfected at all times! I hatch out in a hatcher which I also disinfect.

i like to see pictures of dead snakes! They make me feel warm and fuzzy! I don't care if they kill rodents as long as they kill them somewhere else.
I have a BIG snake! It tried to swallow a half grown cinnamon queen, got it halfway down and had to toss it back up. It was very easy to tell it was a snake. It had just the last part of the breast to go before it had to stop.

Used to bleach the incubator and hatcher before each hatch. Once I started spraying a 10% Oxine solution on my eggs in the turner before incubating, I have better hatches and fewer failure to survive transition from hatcher to brooder. I also use a mixture of sand and top soil in my brooder for early inoculation. Water has Oxine in it (1/4 tsp to a gallon of water).

That must really be a huge snake! Hope you find it soon.

Monday I processed five pheasant for the freezer and today, I processed five cockerels. Five is a good number for me to do in a morning.
I still have about 15 cockerels and another 5 pheasant to go.

We had our Ranger in the shop for repairs and then the pickup had to go in....our dog Red was moping around because he was missing his daily rides. Both vehicles came home today. I took Both dogs out for a potty break and Red disappeared. I found him in the back of the Ranger in the barn. Sure hated to make him wait until later this evening but it was just too hot to go for a ride at 3pm.

I use Oxine. I have been using a 5% solution on the eggs and 10% everywhere else.

How long do you let your chickens rest (cool) before packaging for the freezer? I've got some quail to process soon, and I was wondering if they needed 24 hours for rigor to pass, or if they were different from chickens in that way.
