Wow, I didn't realize the bantams could fly at all. that is quite an accomlishment for a small round bird with soft feathers.

P&B we didn't get the expected wind either... did get a little rain though.

For some reason my Partridge (Cochin) hens roost more frequently and higher than the other colors. They sleep on the top of their 4' coop every night and the rooster sleeps inside alone. Their ofspring, in the grow out pen, roost higher than the Milles and blacks and Lavenders too.

hens are so funny - thats my favorite thing about chickes, that and eggs and pretty feathers and cockerels trying to crow and baby chicks and watching them chase buggs and how the roos call the hens to something delicious and .......

She is probable placing an order for some veggies from the garden. I have a few Madagascar that follow me around like puppies. It is cute now, they are only a couple months old. When the get full grown and look like a large vulture, it may not be so cute then.

Funny! got a hilarious picture in my head.

Anyone know the prowling hours for nocturnal predators?

Something stole a huge cantalope from the garden during the late night hours.

And our dozer man reported seeing a pack of coyotes crossing the creek this afternoon....11 of them...all ages.

I've baited the live trap in the garden. Haven't seen anything close to the house for at least 6 months...but am prepped for the night. Coyotes can be seen cruising across the pastures 1/4 mile from the house and always run to the woods before we can get close enough for a shot.

Predators are fairly predictable based on the actual animal, You cantalope could have been a few rabbits, they love them or a opossum. They will frequent right after dusk and before dawn. Bobcats almost always right after dawn and about 1 1/2 - hours after. Coons tend for 2-3 hours after dusk. Coyotes, are a fickle animal and if they have pups are unpredictable otherwise similar to deer early morning, early afternoon, and dusk or shortly after.

I would go with coon on the cantalope. I have hunted coon 40 years and they will run about all night and some in the day time. Lots of it depends on the weather etc.

Wow NaNa,a pack of 11! I start getting worried about the cattle with tha big of a pack around. Especially if you have calves dropping.

Got a new pen finished today and have the EE bantams setting up housekeeping in it. That gave me a pen for the NN bantams. I let the icelandic roo in with them. He is twice their size so maybe they won't pick on him. The NN roo is still very young so he is no threat. The lady sent me pics of some of the Ice hens she is tradeing me for the milk goat stand. They are very nice and all have little crest sticking out behind the combs! Can't wait to get them.

Got my truck out of the shop for the second time today! So nice to have wheels again! Sure hurts the pocket book tho!lol

I went out this early evening and cut the g. pigs some grass and set and watched them for a while. They are sure neat little critters.Looks like a couple are preggo! They are the lazyest critters there are. They just like to stretch ound lay down to eat their grass like sucking in a spagetti!lol

Well I'm going to get off here and go to bed. Been short on sleep hours the last few nights. God bless us all and comfort those who are hurting and needing comfort tonight.
