***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good Morning Folks! I thought I would drop by and say howdy! It`s a lightly frozen 25°F here this morning with a light dusting of snow, I put a little rock salt down on the deck late last nite after the rain let up, so I should be able to negotiate the deck without sliding off the end :).
I have been reading on here and on several other sites about a lot of folks fighting the flu but so far I have managed to dodge the flu but I have been fighting bronchitis for the last week or so, I finally went to see the Doc and got a shot of anti bionics that seems to be clearing it up. I hope y`all stay well or get that way soon! Take care!

My latest addition......

Smokey Grey Game Stag and Pullet

These come blue legged and peacombed.
The Stag should mature to look like the one in my avatar.....

both are beautiful - I love the lacing on the hen and the contrast in the colors of the stag.

He's so regal. His stance says, "I'm the man!" Beautiful birds.

Nice birds!

Cold and frozen grass with icicles hanging from fences and gates. The chains were frozen on every gate. I'm on DayQuil for cold symptoms...nothing I dislike more than a runny nose!
Hope everyone has a nice day...indoors...and all are staying heathy.

We've got snow on the ground and ice in the water buckets. The chickens have been out, scratched around in the snow for a bit, and then retired to the warmth of the coop. I've done the same.

Robin - Your boys are hanging out in the big bachelor pad with what was once a lonely Brabanter roo. The five are best buds now, and they stay together when it's their turn to free-range. They don't get to go out today, though, with the snow and ice everywhere. The barred Cochin shot me with killer stink-eye when I didn't let them out after breakfast. I picked him up, carried him as I fed the Barnevelders, and then put him back with his gang. When I set him down, he talked a mile a minute, probably complaining to his friends that the Barnevelders got a bigger scoop of food than they did.

The birds are out enjoying the sunshine. It is soooooo cold but they are out scratching in the dirt and dust bathing. They are laying pretty good for the time of the year. We got a HUGE egg from one of my Black Australorps! I will have to post a picture tomorrow. The eggs in the hatcher aren't showing much promise. The humidity is so high even with a dehumidifier going in the room with the incubator. Tomorrow is the official hatch day so we will see.

Well off to help hubby stack wood. He is cutting apple wood lately so if anyone needs some good wood for smoking meats.

Brrrrrrrr...all the outside buckets were frozen when we got home from hubs birthday dinner with the girls and grandchildren. The geese were ready to "go to coop" but were not happy about not getting to take their evening bath. All the freeranging chickens were inside the run until I came out to shut the gate to their run. Had to scatter some scratch inside the run in order to get the stragglers back inside.

Checked on the three new LF chicks that hatched day before yesterday in the hatcher. They were snuggled under the hen I gave them to this morning. She was happy with her five babies. There are two banties that are still in the hatcher until I figure out which hen gets them.

Hope the other broodies are as happy as her when there are 40 plus new chicks next week....the hatch is on!

Well the birds fared pretty well through the cold. After spending the morning like little puff balls, they finally escaped over the honeysuckle and stood at the back gate wanting in again.

You'd think that they'd figured out how to get out of the yard, they could at least figure out how to get back in. Sheesh!

Cooked in the cob oven today. Cooked a chicken in 25 minutes ... drool drool drool. And then made a loaf of bread which was like heaven given we've been on a paleo diet with NO bread of any kind.

Also canned 10 pints and 1 quart of chicken stock plus 9 pints and 2 quarts of chicken. Have 13 more birds to process next week.

Hoping we get some turkeys to hatch soon. Still have six in the bator.

Have a great week everyone!
