***OKIES in the BYC III ***

If anybody is interested I have created a Facebook page called Hushabye Acres which will kinda document my Wife's and I journey as we try to do this mini-farm thing after the tornado. Just do a search for Hushabye Acres in Oklahoma

Big, fuffy birds like Brahmas (sp), Orpingtons and Standard Cochins are very sweet and mellow. I heard that since they are so big and fluffy they are slow to get away so they just accept the attention from people.

I picked my Cochins for their temperment. I just love them. I have Ameraucanas and La Fleche too. The Ameraucanas are somewhat friendly and the La Fleche are very shy but are so beautiful...... my Cochins were my first choice and I love them more and more.
Thanks for the suggestions. Making mental notes.

Cochins most definitely- orpingtons if you can get non-hatchery, my hatchery orps aren't friendly, my black astralorp and rhode island red are very friendly and will follow you around to see what you are doing

looks like i have a broody epidemic in the making, the seramas, and now my silky from betsy and her hatchmate....have got a bigger nest for them now

Robin - I may be able to work with your boys this weekend. I have stressed about the pens in the barn, and the potential for drafts (though it seems okay), so I've been waiting for warmer days and nights. The barred Cochin talked up a storm when I added hay to the dog crate tonight. Sounded like he was telling me I wasn't putting enough in. He used to bite me, when he first came to visit, but now he's a forearm sitter. I have a feeling he will mellow quite a bit more after the change.

they have bloomed at your place, the environment is doing them good! Love that the little cockerel is getting friendly- he has sure gotten big!

I'm so new to this that I'm not sure. I have a black australorp right now and she is a doll. I love that she has so much personality. I've heard they are great layers as well. Haven't gotten to that part yet.
I kind of want some different colors but still friendly personalities.
I'm sure I am being way too picky. Lol

I love my Chanteclers. They are calm, lay in cold weather, and talk, talk, talk, talk. The roosters do well with other roosters. I haven't had any problems with aggression in this breed.

weird thing, i had a hatchery orp that was on the small side, all of her descendants are getting smaller, almost bantam size- what would cause that?
