***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I just love my Easter Eggers. I took a gamble and put 12 of my 2 day old chicks in with my 3 week old EE's. The EE's were all laid out under the heat lamp. They just lifted their wings up and let the little chicks run under them to hide and keep warm. I have a lot of roos in this EE batch. Lord knows I don't need another rooster, but there are 3 that I am going to keep at least another couple of months to see how they feather in. I have heard a lot of people talk about how flighty their EE are, but mine are all very friendly and curious. It is one breed that I will always have in my flock.

I love EE/Ameraucanas almost as much as my Cochins. I have Wheatens. The girls are so pretty. Seems their personalities vary a lot. My neighbor has 2 pens of blues and splashes and they are flighty when I feed them but they are used to him being around them in a scooter. Anyone coming in their pens that is taller spooks them. My birds are use to my 60lb. dog but get spooked when they see my neighbor's 4 lb. Pomeranians!

I have a question about egg color. I just hatched out a couple of BR x FBCM crosses. Assuming that they are pullets, what color should I expect the eggs to be. Will the light brown of the BR roo genes lighten up the FBCM egg coloring?

Up early this morning to round up the turkeys. Gonna send a couple to Mike D. and run the Royal palms thru the auction tonight. While there I am going to look for a different breed for some eggs. Thinking about some multi colored or dark brown eggs.

Can I have & breed any color Orpington together? what will I get I just got a 1 year old Buff Orpington. I want to get some blue orpington hens & some buff hens.

Also can I put Buff orpington bantams in with regular size rooster/ my rooster is Big? or will he hurt them?

Elbert...quit pointing out how many long, long days til spring! lol, I am just kidding. why cant we just have spring and fall? summer gets here and about halfway through I cant wait for cooler weather, winter gets here and about halfway through I cant wait for warmer weather! No satisfying a picky, picky female I guess.

I would be alright with just Spring and Fall too!

okracefan, is that the Newcastle auction you're going to? I had to work late and didn't make it to Blanchard last week, but my Brother in Law and I are going to Newcastle tonight. Hope to see you there.

okay guys, seems like every time I go to collect eggs, its like a easter egg hunt! sometimes they'll lay their eggs in their nests, sometimes IN the feeder, sometimes just in the middle of the coop! I have put fake eggs in their nests, but this hasnt seemed to help so far. Any suggestions? I have even upped the privacy of their nests? Not quite sure what next step I should take?

I know several times we have talked about farm tax numbers. This past yr was the first time we shopped regularly at TSC (new store in Lawton). They mailed us out a summary of all our purchases & even broke it down by category. Seriously makes it a perk of shopping there.

Y'all have fun at the auction tonight. DH offered to take me, but he still hasn't even made home from his work this wk. Don't think a trip to Newcastle is in our timeline.
