***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We got out first eggs today. Yay!

I suspect both were from my chicken.

Congratulations!

I remember when my first birds layed their first eggs. I was so excited I ran across the street to show my neighbor.
I was doomed to have chickens; you enablers and one right across the road. It was baby chicks that did it - helping pull an average of 100 chicks out of incubators and brooders each week, I was helpless to resist. Chicks are so devious.

Another of my Mille Fleur Cochin pullets went broody today. Sneaky girl, I thought I checked her nest every day, but today when I looked, she was flattened out over 6 eggs. She must have been stashing them under the bedding. I added a few more Mille Fleur eggs from other pens to her collection. I have learned that when I think it is hatching time they are often already in broody mode. This year I will use the "Green Incubators" when available.

Lynn sorry for the loss of your cousin.

Carebear congrats on the eggs.
Love the goat coat, can't imagine trying to get one of my goats in a coat. We are lucky to get them to stand still to trim hooves.
The sun was shinning so nice today. Spent some time outside & did my best not to blow away. All the pens are prepped to spend the day inside tomorrow. This weekend was our first time ever hatching ducks. 3 silver appleyards & they are so cute. Almost makes me forget how smelly & messy they will be in a few wks.
Everyone stay warm & dry! I am going to do my best to stay in my PJs & avoid the winter weather.
Doodle I agree with you on the EE debate. We always call ours EE when we sell them. Anyone see chick prices this yr? They were $3.39 each at Atwoods -- keets & ducks were $5.49.

she is a bottle baby and relatively tame but she has a low immunity so she catches cold easier than most.

Our bottle babies developed a mind of their own once they were all grown up. Awesome that she lets you do your best to keep her warm & healthy.
my kids show our goats for 4h and FFA so they get handled quite a bit, but we have had a few that had a mind of there own and just would not tame down.

Not suprized. Chick prices weren't high last night at Blanchard but it was very crowded and I sense that prices will getup there. Ameraucanas went very high at Newcastle but somewhat less this weekend but definately Spring prices.

well it helps allot if you have a goat stand and you roll the coat up like a stocking, i would like find a pattern for a coat like the one she has on but not haveing much luck

this is one of our goats on the goat stand, not a real good photo of it but you and kind of see his head was to big to go in the horse shoe part like is is supose to so i just tied him to it lol but the smaller goats heads fit in there.
