***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Keystone, don't think I have ever heard of that color. Do you have a website or link showing it? Looks like you already have quiet a variety of runner colors! I didn't realize there were even six!lol Your place is going to have to be a "must see" next time I'm in the area. Wife has a cousin in Mannford, down on the lake off of Frog road.

hey guys, does anyone use lime in their runs? was reading there are 2 kinds, one is caustic and one isn't, hubby got some at the feed store called hydrated lime and they said they use it with the horses all the time- would it be safe in the runs- the duck run in particular is pretty bad

and here's a pic of josie and the baby, just too cute not to share

I have a bag lyme for my wet runs. I think it is hydrated. I will check tomorrow morning. It helps with the moisture and with smell somewhat.

Hey felow Okies. I'm a chicken owner in Tulsa but don't post on here much. I need some help.

Last night was the great chicken disaster at our house. I told my wife I was going to go out to close the coop. She said she was going to go the store and she would do it. Then she went to the store, but forgot the coop. I don't know what happened next exactly, but the result are not pretty. She remembered at about 10:30, but when she went out to close the coop there were feathers but not chickens.

So far, we can only account for 1 live (but one-eyed) chicken out of 8. Found 4 mangled chickens and a feather pile for a fifth. I think something may have run everybody out of the coop into the dark and then they were fair game to every critter out there (we have coyotes, foxes and possums and dogs for sure and maybe a raccoon).

At the minimum, I need to get some company ASAP for what appears to my only remaining chicken. I would like to find somebody trustworthy in this part of the state who can sell me a few young chickens that are still laying age. I'm no expert at aging chickens. I'm also not stuck on any single breed and don't care if they are show quality or not. I just want some chickens that lay well, are either already laying or about to start, are not flighty, and are friendly. My favorite breeds have been Black Australorps and Production Reds from Country Hatchery, but I'll try something else.

Can anybody refer me to an honest person who is selling chickens that are going to actually be the age represented by the seller?

If not, can you give me advice on telling an old, spent layer from a new layer?

If there is a seller I need to steer clear of, could you send me a PM with that info? (I would keep that information confidential. Also, if you are worried about who I am, Marribeth knows who I am because I'm also a beekeeper and know her through the state beekeepers association. Contact her for a reference.)

Thanks for your help,

Neil Van Dalsem

Neil! I am so sorry- there are plenty of trustworthy folks here, rather than say craigs list- how is the remaining girl doing? she will be in shock for a bit - i agree some more hens would help- i am sure someone here can set you up with some good hens
