***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well, had to tube feed the calf..tried the bottle first but she sulled up and would not suck. Then added extra dry straw around the calf so she will stay warmer in the tarp shelter. momma cow is sleeping by a hay bale 30 feet from the calf. Sheesh!

Really a cute chick Artsyrobin.

We have been at war with barn mice. They have eaten so many things they shouldn't the past month. I don't get it... Plenty of animal feed around our place.... Why eat electrical cords, tarps & everything else.
Ordered several types of mouse traps on Amazon & the ketch all caught 6 mice tonight in just a few hours. Will see how the other brands fair, but right now the winner is Ketch-All. Hope to find many more mice tomorrow.

ETA-- we have already gotten 2.5 inches of rain!!!! Love it.... But won't look forward to having to mow.

Just now having my first cup of coffee for the morning.....
took out the dogs first thing, then went ahead and fed and watered the flocks in the barn, took feed to the wild goose feeder, let the tame geese out, and took feed and water to the flocks in pens.
Then...we put the cow in the back pen, wheelbarrow end the calf thru the mud to the back pen, attempted to get the calf to take a teat; when that failed, we milked out the cow, strained it and added the last of the colostrum formula to it, attempted to bottle feed the calf and ended up tubing her again.
Then there was the muddy clothes to go into the wash and the clean ones from last night to fold out of the dryer...and the bottles to wash and clean up the kitchen.

the rain gauge shows 1.25 so far since yesterday...looking forward to more rain today although it means more laundry to do...it's amazing how muddy you get when you slop thru mud in a pen....

Headed to town in a bit to purchase milk replacer at the feed store and then I need to cut up 16 pounds of strawberries to make jam. Our local grocery (Firelake) had them for $1 a pound...couldn't pass that up.

Jcatblum...how is Bambi doing...hope she has her kids when the weather is nicer....

Bambi refuses to let that baby out. I haven't seen a sign of her going into labor since Saturday. Her official due date is tomorrow, but due dates are more like a due guess.

Nana I think you should make a book...... Cattle farming isn't for the lazy or weak. Include all the experiences that most never plan for or think of. It can be an ebook & you can put it on Amazon.

I know especially when the animals have been tromping around in it. I have 3 goats that could kid any time glad they are holding off hopefully till it is dryer. But definitely glad for the rain.
