We are new to this this year, and have 8 bantams that are 9 weeks old. 2 Welsummers, 2 E.E. and 4 Silkies. Is there any kind of routine medicine we should know about giving them, or should we just feed, water, and play with them and not worry about it? Thanks.

As far as any kind of "routine" meds, no. Do you really want your birds "dependent" on meds to live. Their body can become immune and when they do get sick, meds may not work. Now vitamins in the water won't hurt them and would help them through any stress. Good luck with your new venture and enjoy your birds.

I am pretty certain that 3 of my chicks are roosters so they need a new home. One OEGB (not sure what color, maybe splash?), one Frizzled Cochin, and one buff silkie (he has something going on where he shakes his head every now and then - he gets along just fine). I also have a polish that I am unsure is male or female, doesn't appear to be laced but is gold and black. They are 5-6 weeks old. If anyone is interested, please let me know! I can send pictures, just not from my phone for some reason.

I'm in Broken Arrow. I will try the Sevin, but I did some research and found quite a few other cases of "head shaking" in hatchery silkies. - some kind of neurological thing I guess. He's healthy and happy otherwise, keeps up with the other chicks just fine but it's like he gets a case of the dizzies every now and then.

Finally blew out my first egg I am going to carve it tonight. just do not know what to carve in it got any ideas to inspire me?

I honestly am not sure what color he is - I got him from Atwoods, which gets their chicks from Ideal, and they carry black and red frizzled cochins but he looks like some in-between color to me. I also have a silver-laced cochin that I'm 99% is a hen (second to last picture) that I would let go with the roo if anyone would be interested in them both as a pair. I'm really disappointed the little OEGB is a roo (no question here - he let out a pathetic little crow this morning) because he is SO sweet - he will let my girls scoop him up without a chase like the others.

all of a sudden I am starting to loose my chicks. I am down to about 3 out 9. I have them 2 separate cages. They will be fine one day and dead the next. Wondering if I might have a snake issue but they are not being eaten. These chicks are 1 -3 months old. I never have had this problem before.
