***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@Robin, It is a bit larger of an egg than the other four. The one that stopped early and I had to throw out was the one that you said was a cochin's that got snuck in. Two have been rockin and rollin while one is kind of iffy but appeared full grown when I candled. I have hopes that maybe it is just docile and not as active as the other two.. but alive and well. I was just super puzzled with the one that was iffy. It was moving inside the egg like crazy when I candled. To make sure I wasn't just seeing things I candled once more last night. Still moving in there like it's having a party. Doesn't seem to be in distress. We'll see what happens...

@NanaKat I will try that. That really makes sense.

Freezing rain up here in Claremore. We could use the rain but freezing rain and snow??? Yuck.


Oh, I know it is a dumb question but are 2 month olds suppose to crow??? This is new to me. Hilarious when he does. My lav orp cockerel never tried... even at 4 mo old he still wont.

The auction was fun!.....very amusing too... I got that one blrw young roo (14)... Then was second bidder on the really nice blrw pairs - I stopped at 29 and they went for 30, the best three were taken. I declined second pick. They went for auction again and got all the way up to 40$!
So I was good - came back with a young roo that I have been looking for... some peanut butter balls and strawberries.

I think we kinda sorta met, I was the man who came and asked you what kind of roo he was that I had got him with two other birds as pullets. really glad he went to a good home... I was going to keep him but, something told me that morning to take him to the sale...I am still really new to the chicken world I still have not made up my mind what I want. at this point I have 4 GLW hens and 1 Roo, 1 black splash Americana hen 1 black splash American pullet 1 blue splash Americana hen and 1 Black roo. 5 turken hens and 1 roo, 1 polish roo, and a few mis others.

would never leave him chained. I said when the chickens were out. You know for a bit each day. I can't leave them out and him out and have him accidentally kill one. I'm afraid he would start killing the neighborhood chickens. Then he would get shot. I needed advice not scolding. Thanks anyway.

Hopefully there was just a misunderstanding here. I see nothing wrong with doing a tie out line for the dog for short periods during the day as long as his needs are met. And if its needed as part of his training then it's better than being shot. Good luck with him.

We need to do a better job of introducing ourselves at auctions and shows by wearing a BYC button or something.....maybe a white colored arm band with BYC in black or blue letters....just thinking out loud.

Also, EddieOkie...what you are doing is the best way to experiment with chickens. By enjoying diverse breeds, be they hatchery or auction finds, you can determine what you like or don't like. Then you can invest in good breeders from what you really like.

Ugh....got another neighbor dog that likes to hang out at our house. We've taken it back home 3 times and it comes right back. When owner called to come get said dog, his reply was 'just shoot it in butt and it will go home'. I love MY dogs and I would NEVER tell anyone to shoot my dog with pellets to enforce it to stay home. I've put up very good effort to keep my dogs in my yard. My other neighbor has also given us permission to shoot his dog if its a nuisance. Now my neighbors have no business owning dogs IMO and these dogs have probably never been on a tie out a second of their lives and they should be.....before I have to shoot them or take them to pound.

Please except my apology. I am so sorry, I wasn't scolding really. I just got on a rant. I see no reason a dog can't be tied when nescessary. I've had to do that to mine a few hours when we 've had company. They are all big and imposing so no one ever wants to come through the gate or in the house with them lose. I just meant 24/7 and really wasn't directing it at u. (There's a beautiful dog across the rd from us that is always tied up, no matter the weather and I had never seen anyone do anything with him but feed him and it makes me cry. We have a bobcat around here and he wouldn't stand a chance. so I was venting at them really.) I'll go back and read my post because it didn't think I scolded, but since u wanted help and I just vented I can see where u are coming from. I'm a kind person, really. Just an annoying one.

I can't stand to see anything hurt, human or animal. Except the bloomin predators and I feel bad for them because they are trying to stay alive too. Just find something elses beside my animals or anyone elses. Sometimes I am not very articulate in the way I put things and certainly don't have the grace and skills of communication as so many have on here. Please forgive me, I wan't scolding

I HAVE HAD MY FEELINGS HURT SO MANY TIMES BY NOT BEING UNDERSTOOD SO i KNOW HOW U FEEL.. I am one of those sometimes activist on spaying and nuetering, because of so many unwanted animals out there. Cats go feral, become predators to stay alive and it's not their fault. I wish u all the luck with your dog. Nana Kat and others seem to know a lot about them. I'm just lucky because mine hasn't done that, and she is old and very playful. Some of our other dogs have killed some of our chickens at first, but when they got to know them as part of the pack, they never bother them. Good luck, and never let anyone make u feel bad. I like that idea of a shirt or arm band.. I like to think of my chickens as pets also and, want to learn how to do things right...
