***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Just back in from feeding the livestock by dancing with the vehicles. My job was gate keeper and chauffeur. Hubby used the tractor with a bale of hay to clear a path for the cubes. Then I drove him to the feed truck so he could drop cubes for the herd. We would break ice then move all the equipment to the next pasture. All the cows and calves had a layer of ice and snow on their backs.

warning: here in central OK, the 2 inch snow covers a slick layer of ice. I slipped going to close a gate. Both feet out from under me, I landed on my hip and I hit my head on the car going down....was seeing stars for a while.

Going back out in a few minutes with jugs of hot water to top off the cups in the cages in the barn and take extra feed to all the feeders both inside and out. Have already watered the outside bird. Cleared a path to the water containers and dropped some scratch for them. They got their drinks and scratch and then disappeared back in their coops. Smart birds!

So everyone be careful and stay warm.
Love the truck dance! Just got back in myself from taking care of all the chickens and the backyard cows. Had to carry water - I thought that those frost free tall spigots were supposed to work in freezing weather! NOT!!!

well, our guineas made it through the night, i guess sleeping on the porch is enough protection?? they have a 3 sided alcove to get into-

chickens are still in coops, had oatmeal, femented feed and cayenne for breakfast, watching channel 6, Travis says next weeks storm is starting to 'worry' him and is looking like a substantial winter event.... uh oh

That sucks, are you okay? Better stay in for a bit!
Where do you work? Or what type of store?
Grocery, I also work seasonally at a Greenhouse! I actually just got back home, as I was afraid, my 4WD went out and I conveniently hit a patch of ice.......the ditch caught me

I am fine and so is truck, it'll be awhile before we can pull it out though! Boss has no reason to be upset now though, I think he kind of feels bad now.

Proof that you should go with your instincts!!!

Serves him right. Anyone who truly feels unsafe getting out on the roads should not be forced to. Hope you get your truck out soon!

Nana, OMG-that's how people fracture hips and get head trauma. That's scary.
I've consolidated enough birds that there's just 8 water tubs I have to lug water to. The rest all have buildings with heat lamps and heated tubs. It sucks that the 8 tubs I have to haul to are spread out though. I'm so tired of this. Robin, there's more coming??? I brought my 2 Doves and 2 Pigeons inside, I was too scared of losing them to this kind of cold. They can easily take cold but not like this IMO. So there's a lot of cooing going on along with the parakeets, canaries, cockatiel and finches :) The prettiest sound in the whole world to me is the cooing Doves and Pigeons make.

MJ, "Cat" was the hen's name? lol She sounds like a real Ma Kettle :-D (dating myself again)

UGH the boss thinks I should drive in this...Mostly I just think he doesn't want to close!!! :he
I work in the neighboring town, about 15 min drive.  My feeling is that I'[m not paid quite enough to risk an accident and my 4WD isn't staying engaged...........Sorry I just wanted to vent LOL!

Aren't you under 20? For some reason I thought you were a teenager. If so, he ought to feel bad!

Have you guys heard the sounds a Brahma Bantam makes? I'm not sure if it's all of the type, or just mine, but I swear they sound like an exotic rainforest in full swing, birdcalls, frogs, monkey hoots and all. I could listen to them all day.

@Ksane yep, and he is inferring not pretty.... talk about crowing! Sonny packs a deep crow... currently in the studio are 4 roos, Sonny and some bantams- then in the kitchen are the blind silky boys, Mr Mumbles- and the front room has SG roo... so if one kicks in the others do too
