***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks everyone. I had them shipped from Norhtern California so that was some distance and then the weather here lately has not been the best. Several of the ones I opened looked like scrambled eggs, then there where several with blood rings, so they may have started and then just stopped. I have benn monitoring the temp and humdity all the time so I don't think it is the bator. I have the Brinsea Octgagon 20 which I have read is suppose to be a pretty good bator. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the one baby continues to develope. So now I am on the search for some local eggs to purchase. I desperately want to hatch some little ones, when I seen the live embryo in the one egg swimming around it was like christmas to me...lol. I will keep everyone posted.

Nice boy! Love the longevity and calving ease of these guys too! Best part is the Easter egg hunt come calving time. Here is our latest with his dad. Couldn't have asked for a prettier calf!

Muesky and Mjgigax, the folks that were sitting behind us at Newcastle auction raise miniature LONGHORNS! If you like banties...this has got to be the coolest! Just think, mini steak and cheese to go with the mini breakfast egg!

i love the way longhorns look they are so pretty, They were my schools mascot in high school so I have always had a soft spot for them, awwe what a cute calf.
They have mini longhorns oh my how awesome i will have to see if i can find some pic on line that would be cool.

I have seen many 100% hatches out of my Eco, so yes I blame the eggs. Sorry! You will love your Brinsea once spring comes.

Two of my 24 week old Japs are acting broody. They just started laying 3 weeks ago. I don't think it would be safe to set them on eggs at such an early age. What do y'all think?

I'm not sure of any set time to give them before you try to hatch, but personally I would wait a few more weeks. From what I've seen some of my hens have taken more than 6 weeks to reach full egg size. I am having a hard time waiting too! I have 2 broody buffs, and am making them wait until the weather is a bit warmer!

I am bummed out, out of the 17 shipped silkie eggs in my incubator on day 10 i only have one baby...  I guess that's what I get with shipped eggs.  I had just hoped for more since this was my first hatch.  I will try to find hatching eggs local for the next hatch.  Not giving up, just disappointed is all.

Really sorry to hear that, you just really never know with shipped eggs. I won some gold-laced brahma eggs, when I got them home they were ice cold and I thought for sure they wouldn't develop. I let them set out in room temp for 24 hours, put them in the bator. I will candle again in a few days but last I checked I had 11 out of 15 growing, I was very surprised. I have had eggs come in perfect condition from the east coast, and some come scrambled from western OK - just depends on the PO

Try ebay and refine the search to "nearerst distance". That's how I found my SFH eggs in Arkansas and just arranged to pick them up. Good luck with your next hatch and keep us posted on your little one!



Have I ever mentioned how I am sick of this weather???

I let them out yesterday and the larger Cochin is for sure a boy! He was going after all the girls but never tried for the smaller Cochin so I am thinking that one is a dude too. My 4 mo old lav orp cockerel thought he was going to monkey see monkey do and all he did was manage to pull a bunch of neck feathers on some of the girls. Ugh.

Boys. So... if anyone wants a Buff Cochin cockerel they are going for $10. again.

I slipped and fell on my knee, the same one I hurt a month or so ago, it was still sore from the first injury, now it is really hurting. I don't think I did any structural damage (either time) but since the pain is so intense and lasted such a long time I figured I hairline fractured the bone.
