Ashtree, every once in awhile you'll get an ornery rooster. Out of the 30+ I have there's 2 that are aggressive, only 1 dangerously so. He belongs to my grown daughter though and I don't have it in me to kill my daughter's rooster. We've had to put down 2 and I've given away 1 (for dinner) that were real aggressive, another a predator got to 1st. 95% of roosters are sweethearts.

I have had one really aggressive one, I was never able to convert, he was killed in the big massacre.

Trying an experiment today. I am always looking for "non egg" ways of using eggs in different types of dishes. Right now I don't have a super abundance of eggs b/c we are still rebuilding after the big massacre, but I have some young hens that will eventually start laying. I took some boiled eggs, removed the yolk, chopped them and am now marinating them in a vinegar based oriental seasoned mixture. I am going to use them as the protein in stir fry tonight.

Capons are not aggressive at all, hens are more aggressive then them, but they also can't make babies.

How to handle an aggressive roo, you ask 10 people you will get 10 answers. After my ordeal my answer would be to eat him. Many try the chicken equivelent of humiliation therapy, holding like a baby in front of the others, or other ways of forcing submissive behavior. Others a more lead roo type of "beating" them into submission, chasing, hitting, kicking, spraying w/ water etc....

My flock was decimated back in Oct. while my husband and I were gone for a day the neighbors came and let our dog into the chickens yard, then when she was finished came back and refastened the gate. The only survivors were 3 broody moms and their chicks that were in a different fence, and one smart girl who got and stayed high.

So very very sad. That must have been devastating to come home to. Im so sorry.

Just checked. No Newcastle auction this Saturday. They will be doing one third Saturday of the month. I did not ask - so could be wrong, but I think this will be standard for the summer months.

Capons aren't aggressive in the least, not even to each other or hens or young chicks. The aggressive ones I've got are in yards and yes, I can go in there. With a stick lol The Bantam Faverolles boy just attacks my shoes, I'm not scared of him and can just pick him up and carry him around til I'm done in that yard (or trip over him attacking my shoes). My daughter's rooster though.....he's a jerk and has punctured my legs with his spurs lots of times. He survived some pretty bad stuff when he was young and she nursed him through it for a month. Right or wrong I'm not going to kill him because it would break her heart. He can just live out his ornery life here.
