***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yes I have read that about Texas A&M and the altex are pink eyed whites from New Zealand White stock I believe.  I wouldn't choose a pew for a pet though, I think one of the ugliest rabbits out there, but probably good for meat since you wouldn't have the cute factor to deal with.  The other thing to think about w/ breeding for meat harvest, is the potential for pelt harvest.  at $2-10 (depending on breed and age) per pelt you can defray some or all of your feed costs.
also, THE POOP is a cold fertilizer, so you don't need to compost or age it at all.

We like our mini rex alot but they're not heat tolerant and I always feel bad in the summer that he's stuck inside :( (plus bunny pee is NOT my favorite smell) we love him lots but haven't come up with a good housing system for him. Mostly he lives in a cage with an hour of run around time a day. I'd love to know if anyone else raises non heat tolerant rabbits and how they do it?

I raise jersey woolies and minilops. They are outside in a barn with fans. When it is very hot I put a soaker hose ontop of the roof of the metal barn. We have a pet bunny in the house. He has a corner litter box that we change out every couple of days. He is carried around and let run in the carpet supervised of course.

Its fun and rewarding (especially if you can use the yarn) but there are lots of steps! You have older kids? And girls? Heck thats a sleepover party!

Do you spin? I bought an Ashfird spinning wheel last year and haven't used it yet. I also have jersey woolies for wool. It is a crazy addiction these animals we have
