I already am.

Yea, Im just going to do 2 separate covered runs. Its not really going to be too much more work in the end. I just dont think I will be able to free range mine at all

Which makes me really really sad. Being in the yard with them is my favorite part of the day. But I can already tell neighbors dog is going to be a problem. We go out there a lot to work on stuff and the dog comes to our soon to be property and barks at us and this time actually tried to run at us several times

I am no fan of dogs I dont know and Im hardly a dog whisperer. We really need to fence in the entire east side of the property, which is not going to be easy or cheap. And the real icing on the cake is the dog is not neutered…..

Maybe Im in a complaining mood….just wanting to figure out a solution.
Actually stray dogs seem to be the main predator of free range flocks. Get a LGD that u know is already ok and been w/ chickens. It makes a difference. My little donkey Elvis, gets along w/ my anatolian, but it took time. Now that I don't have anymore goats I'm going to rehome him. He really misses his goats. I got another LGD recently thinking he'd be happy w someone else, he is but not like I expected. Oops got off track

Anyway, Elvis(the donkey) tried to kill the new dog, and would have succeeded if we hadn't had the pickup parked in front of the chicken yard(putting in sand)where she could run under. He's injured the neighbor dog, which doesn't come over anymore, and I've actually saw him go after a fox w/ my own eyes. I don't know if he got it or not. There was a reddish dog over here a lot a while back, and got most of my buff orp girls,

and Elvis finally matured enough that he got him. I warned the guy, because HE came over once complaining the donkey got out and went after his dog. I apologized for the donkey getting out, but told him to keep his dog at home or the donkey or I would get him. Elvis did.

Awwww.....little boys are sooooo sweet!

Candled the 14 Serama eggs from DHep and there are nine nicely developing embryos. I pulled one blood ring. Left 4 possible clears until I candle them again on day 10....just in case I missed something. Granddaughter is already so excited. She called me earlier this evening to see if I had candled them.

Fine chopped a cabbage head for the flock this evening. ...They went nuts...even the little chicks were in on the act...looked like an ant swarm on a caterpillar.
Tomorrow they get the processed plum waste from today's canning session and the rind from a huge cantaloupe. I also have some baseball bat sized cucumbers for them.
Such lucky birds.

it's very lonely outside without their constant conversation.

Got our new big pen finished this week and covered it yesterday. Today we need to put up the gates and fix the roosts inside the coop, and next week I will paint it. We got the coop on Craigslist for a very good price. Someone on FB told me we have the cinderblocks the wrong way for strength so we will fix that before we do anything else to the building.

This is my stage 1 baby pen and it is adjacent to the new pen, so we covered them both together.

Today is the Capon Clinic! Exciting!
Really awesome. What do you put over the top?

I just wanted to get on the okie thread so here's a pic of some of my birds

Welcome to Fluffybutts Anonymous! Pull up a chair and stay a while.

So where in NE OK are you from? I live in Skiatook, work in Tulsa. We have a couple of really great peeps in this area.

On our way home from Rinda's and the Capon Clinic, we should be home by 7:00.
Rinda's place is wonderful! Rinda and Lonny, thank you so much. And Coral-as always we're so indebted to you.

Welcome! I'm from west of Tulsa. Do you participate in the bantam shows at Pryor? I've been going to them for several years. Nice, well run smalishl shows and sale/swap.
