***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Sorry for your losses.

stupid, predators.

I seem to have lost some chickens. I haven't had predator issues in forever, so I'm lost on what happened. I tried to inventory, but it doesn't help when your chicken math got the better of you over the last six months. Three guinea babies, a Brahma, an Orpington (the thinning feathers bird, believe it or not), an EE pullet, and the worst, Ella, my CL girl. I found tiny bundles of feathers for the Brahma and the Orpington but not a trace of the others. I can honestly say I wasn't emotionally bonded to them, but I'm really disappointed about losing Ella; she was a really sweet girl.

I can't imagine what got them. A dog would have killed more and left dead bodies. I guess it's possible a fox got lucky and made an end run around the dogs that live here, but not likely.
I think maybe fox or bobcat.

Sorry for your losses.

I had a hawk swoop through my yard today while I was filling the duck pond, about 10 feet from my head. Took my breath away, then the arrogant thing perched atop my neighbor's house.
Is it against the law to spray towards them with a garden hose? That's the only way I can think to deter them, but don't want to do it if I am not allowed to. Figured I'd check first?

i don't think that would be illegal, no worse than them getting caught in a rainstorm

So sorry kelly! i am so paranoid about losing any and count every night

@Kyzmette Sorry to hear about the flock losses.

@ashtree Definitely Miss Pollyanna is yours

@hotcurltr Hope you are healing nicely.

@Ksane Great photos of your capons and love the colors. Gotta love those broodies.

Speaking of Quail eggs, I want to try pickling. Does anyone sell quail eggs, or know where I can buy some (online they say high end well stocked grocery stores, but I've never seen any)

The English & French Lop rabbits I've got top out around 11-12 lbs. Last weekend I got the 4 new ones, 3 are full grown but still young. I put those 3 in 5x5 X-Pens (exercise pens) inside of big chicken pens. Well for 2 days in a row now the huge Blue buck has been out of his pen inside the Silkie Bachelor pen and mingling with the Silkie boys. He was having a nice drink alongside one of the Silkies this morning when I went out. The other Blue buck is inside his pen in a 10x10 pen with 1 rooster. They ignore each other and the rooster roosts on the edge of the X-Pen.
I got to reading and it seems there's a lot of people that have rabbits and chickens together (although controversial as always). I think this might work given enough space. I've got mulch down in the pens and it's raked regularly and sprayed down. So it's not like anyone is walking in globs of chicken poop. The pens are lined underneath with chicken wire so the Buns can't dig out. I'm going to try this with a couple of them.
Has anyone else kept them together?

Im very interested in this. I let my bunny out to run around with the chickens in the evenings right now, some of the chickens are mean to him, and some are terrified of him, and some dont even notice him. The bunny has little interest in them because he really likes my pyrenees. But, when we move no one free ranges (except maybe SFHs in the very distant future) so I think it may be harder to do. Making him a hutch with a run is going to be a big priority as is getting another bunny friend. I dont know, we've raised this boy since he was a baby but the kids barely play with him and its just become another thing for me to take care of. Honestly Ive talked to my husband about rehoming him, but he has such a great personality and I think I just need to get the time to put the work into making it work with him. Theres just so much on the list! I really think sharing housing with chickens is one of those things that works for some but not everyone.

Have you gotten your boy bunnies neutered yet? If not are there any aggression issues amongst them?

I've tried looking on Craigslist and such not, but I haven't found anything. I'm looking for Broad Breasted white turkey poults.
Anyone in the north east area of OK got any for sale?
