***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I love the rain, but can't wait for cooler weather with no rain...maybe this afternoon for us, haha. I have a ton I want to get done.

If @ashtree 's SFHs look anything like mine (and they should since they were all hatchmates), they are gorgeous and sweet! I lucked out and got 1 boy/1 girl. When/where is the next capon class? Or who does that on here? I'd love to keep my boy, but don't need another functioning roo. Lol.

I have 5 large fowl and 1 bantam cochin, possibly frizzled, in the mini bator due in 5 days. I am not good at candling, but I think they're all still growing.

My flock was NPIP tested yesterday. If there is ever a reason to keep a small flock, it is the fact that ALL your birds have to be tested for the first five years. Lol. Next year, assuming I do it again, I will put them in dog crates after going to roost. Some of my coops are set up in a way that makes testing easy. My silo coop is not.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

@Poco Pollo has had several classes, but with school started I don't know if she will be doing another one soon. @Ksane knows how to do it, and several others. I do, too. I'd be glad to show you how when my tools come in. Coral is ordering a set of Chinese tools for me sometime this month, they should be here in October sometime.

On the NPIP- I just keep my birds cooped up the morning of the testing- then as he tests a bird I throw it into the run and grab the next one from the coop. Makes it as simple as possible.

That's what I did, but about halfway through, my silo coop seemed to get MUCH BIGGER! Haha
I can't believe the guy didn't just bust out laughing. :)

Met with our wonderfully sweet @Nanakat and picked up a beautiful Blue Cochin boy and his equally gorgeous girls. He looks so much like the Blue Cochin boy I used to have I told my husband if they were standing side by side I don't know that I could tell the difference. They're settled out of the rain in their 10x10 kennel with food, water & a 4x3 wooden doghouse with a low roost bar stuffed full of shavings.
The Cochin boy did have to reprimand one of his girls for admiring the flirting rooster outside their fence. He beak-smacked her on the head and shoved her away from the fence

He's wonderfully protective of his girls lol
Nana, thank you so much for these very special birds.
You are most welcome. I know they will have forever homes and be truly loved.

What did you do with the egg from the one hen?

The other girl laid her egg this morning in the cage before going into the car. So that means they are both laying. Some of the girls have been laying a while so the eggs may be big enough to hatch....enable...enable....enable.

My computer is acting up again. so sorry about the double. I cant believe what a wonder woman you are and all you accomplish. It really puts me to shame and I'm envious, which is a sin. But seriously I would think I was in heaven if I could do all you do. I assume since you were called in for testing that u r having surgery on Monday? If that's the case, when would you like me to pick up my girls? I tried everything but an ice bag under Hannah. Even putting her in a bare cage. She insists she is going to be broody, so I boke down and gave her some eggs last night. I don't even know what I gave her. Just the bigger ones layed yesterday. My plan was not to let them hatch any eggs but my project eggs, but I'm still working on the breeding pens, which they'll hate, but once they have the eggs they can go back out and free range. Now , today Splish Splash(what an original name for a splash) is setting. I give up, I have two others and might as well give in. I just don't want more mutts although, more than half the time I get the hybrids, I'm trrying to breed for and lots of pure breds on the RIR. He has so many daughters that, I'm going to rehome him, mostly because he's gotten out of hand with breeding since I have so many young juveniles still. He's people friendly and loves the baby chicks, but has been stealing as many hens as he can. Hopefully it will start to stay a little cooler and I can get my breeding pens finished. I saw yours, so I make mine a little bigger w/ a top, because my hens fly all except thec/w crosses. I don't know what to finishfirst. I'm overwelmed the juvenile rooster pen, because the one I have is too small unless, I start eating them, or bugging Kass to take as many as she feels she can pro0cess any time she wants. But I really want breeding pens finished so I can put the projects in and get the eggs I want. I just got pooped on

I shamelessly fed it to them so they would like me and think I was cool  I'm not making the mistake I did last year and going into winter with baby chicks. Not fun!

She's a Silver Campine or Egyptian Fayoumis. I don't know which one as I've never owned them and they look the same to me

My daughter just lost her second chicken today. We had to give her away (just found out she has been eating eggs, and cannibalized a hatching chicken yesterday. UGH! I told her I would try to find her a couple of replacement girls, but made the mistake of asking her what type she wanted. :0/

Does anyone just happen to have any day old Cochin Frizzle and/or Lavender Auracauna (would take an Americana) chick's or fertile eggs? I would also take gentle adults. Please?? :0)

there are ways to work with egg eaters, increasing the protein and i wonder if the canibalizing may be a hint also-

check with nanacat on replacements, she has some wonderful gentle birds
