***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Given her age and the stress she's been under, coccidia could've easily overtaken what little immune system she has. I'd get her on Sulmet (most any feed store) ASAP- as in "as soon as you can driv to get some". Coccidia can kill them overnight, lots of times without warning. You're lucky in that you were given a warning (blood in her stool) in time to go get meds. Corid is *not as good for coccidia, get Sulmet if any way possible.
Yea, you'll have to reapply the neosporin every 3-4 hrs.
ETA: Obviously you don't have to reapply it during the night, just during the day.

The vet told me to get some Oxytetracycline and put it in her water. Will that work?

What type of Vetericyn? Hydrogel or liquid?

My hubby came home with some Triple Antibiotic Ointment with a painkiller that is NOT a cain derivative. It is Pramoxine HCL. I found this on PoultryPedia.com is this correct? I just ran out of my other and it is time to get some more on the little one...

This is from the site...
Never give a chicken any kind of painkiller with 'caine' in the name. These are EXTREMELY toxic to chickens if overdosed.
  • Exception: Procaine Penicillin injectible is not as risky because it is rarely overdosed.
  • Do NOT use a Triple Antibiotic Ointment with "Pain Relief" or Painkiller because almost all include '-caine' ingredients.
    • Exception: Neosporin with Painkiller products usually only use Pramoxine HCl as the painkiller ingredient, and that is alright for chickens

still looking for Sulmet, by the way...

Good luck with the longhorns! 100?! That's amazing! How can I find the dates on the Shawnee show? If nothing else, it would be a great day with the fam! I need to contact Betsy. I think I Pm'ed her but haven't heard back. Could my kids compete in the poultry show or is it more of an auction?
Thanks! Keli
Keli,

You did PM me. The kids can compete in both shows. They can show individual birds at these shows. Trios only for 4-H. And at your kids ages - they would be showing as cloverbuds (and not really competing) ... I think that I've seen some individuals being shown by cloverbuds - but don't know if it an exception or not. I'll pm you back with more info.

But the show in Newcastle and Shawnee are definitely shows. There are just individual people around the outside or in a side room that have stuff for sale.

I'll have some available this weekend if you're in my area-Normanish.

I'm not NPIP certified yet tho. PM me if you're interested. They're 15 and 16 generation sizzles from Sheri Minkers line. Very beautiful birds

Cool! @kelielliott , if you go... see if Ashley has put that orange pullet she got from me into the soup pot yet!

That bird is from the Catdance line. As far as I can tell, she (Ashley, not the pullet) has great taste in birds and a wonderful boy about the age of your kids... and if she says the sizzles are beautiful, then they surely must be!

I do not have sizzles at all, and do not know about their showability in a 'sanctioned' show. It is possible that they might be under 'all other varieties' (AOV). The 4-H standards, especially for the young kids, are much more relaxed - as the emphasis is on the kids project development and resulting personal growth. It is not a kickdown dragout fight for the biggest trophy with the best bird with the emphasis on WINNING!!!!!.

The pm part was about Betsy.
