***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My Serama, Channing, is a baby-daddy :) We had to leave earlier and when we got back his hen had pushed the pipped egg about a foot away from her and it was cold. Yes, you know it, I felt like bawling. I could hear faint clicking noises so I put it in the small incubator I've left running in case I needed it. He'd been pipped almost 24 hrs so I went ahead and peeled chunks of shell away. Yolk and veins were absorbed. He stretched and popped the top off the shell and I left him there with the bottom still on him. I'll check him in a few hrs again. He's tiny and black and precious!!! I'm hoping the other hatches, too.
Channing is passing out corn cob cigars!

Wooo Hoooo!!!!

that's an image hard to get out of my mind, naked ugly pink golf balls with pointy beaks and toes.

They have feathers now though, they're beautiful lol

Serama baby pictures! Unless you're holding off for emotional reasons, and then I certainly understand. But once you get in the safe zone we need pictures!

I'll get some when he's steadier on his feet. It's going to be awfully hard to show in pictures how he's the 2nd most perfect chicken in the whole world  For once I'm actually hoping for a boy.

Can't wait to see pics of little "Ditto" (that is what I've been calling him)

So happy for you hope he's the spitting image of his papa.

Thanks, Kass :) that's very sweet of you!
It was hard getting his picture because he's so tiny, he weighs .04 oz. less than 1/2 an ounce! The little cups that come with Nyquil are 1 oz cups if that gives you an idea of how tiny he is. He's getting stronger. I'm at a disadvantage already, he means so much to me because he's Channing's baby. So it's a little difficult to be objective. He likes me though :)

that is tough

, but way the right decision

....not only are you dealing with a potential 50/50 loss on the calves, but not so good for the heifers too. I've seen my share of black cows at our vets office having c sections with babies that are too far gone and the main point was to save the cow. You might want to consider a black longhorn bull....always low birthweight calves for heifers, and the F1 longhorn crosses can perform as well as anything else in the feedlot...hybrid vigor and all that!
X2! Tough decision, but it sounds like the right one.

@ksane super cute little baby :) you must be the happiest chicken mama/grandma ever!

Does anyone know of a local source for oxine? No luck finding it at atwoods and I would like to get it this weekend. I'm in Central OK but going to Okemah (hello goose) on Sunday.

Have 6 SFH babies from the shipped eggs :) and Arlos bantam ameraucana egg he was gifted at the poultry show is now a super cute, super tiny chick named Ninja. Rooster or pullet this one stays!

Here's a picture of one of the SFHs. Watching them feather out is half the fun!

I've never found it locally, always ordered it online. I think Amazon was where I found it cheapest last time. A gallon jug lasts F.O.R.E.V.E.R. for me since I use it as a 10% solution. Wish you were closer, I would just pour a few ounces of mine into a bottle for you!

Well shoot! That's a nice offer and if you were closer I'd be there. If I don't hear of a place before tomorrow I'll order it. I just hate getting packages here. The mailman gives us a 'pick up at post office' slip but then brings the box with him on the truck the next day only to not deliver it again. It's like a giant slapstick comedy routine, only I want my package.

Here you go Kyzmette. These are all your babies. We had 6, lost 2 the day of those really bad storms. No idea what happened to them, I was out in the rain for an hour searching. These 4 are amazing though! Barely even need their momma, they'll up and leave her and follow me to the food. It's amazing how well they blend in too!

I'm also looking for a rooster for my MIL if anyone has one for sale or trying to get rid of. She was supposed to get one with her recent order but he's a she. She has mostly EE, but probably wouldn't care what he was. She wants one around they same age (her pullets were born in May.)
