***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Nice thing about chicken wire is it can be tightened by folding areas and lacing a thin wire thru it to hold it in place. Between your PVC pipe framework, you can use a taunt strand of electric fence wire (because of it's steel strength) and tie the chicken wire to it. Of course your chickens aren't going to notice the way the chicken wire is attached as much as you will..... Quote: :welcome x 2 What color are the females? My Australian Shepherd Gracie is almost 11 years old and has a huge tumor. She is a red merle. I'm realistic enough to know I will soon have to replace her.
How sweet! There are two red merle females. The males are red merle, blue merle, and black bi. All will be for sale. If there had been a red bi female we would have kept one. They will be akc registerable. Mom is ASCA too but not dad.

Welcome to all the newer-newbies!

Rinda, I LOVE PUPPIES. But with 4 large labs laying around, I'd appreciate not seeing any more cute puppy pics. Lol. Something in my being makes me forget that puppies GROW. If they ever make smell-o-vision computers, I'll be in really serious trouble. Puppy breath...aah.

THIRTY WEEKS. Yes, SEVEN MONTHS.That is how old my Jubilees are. And they're not laying yet. Aargh. Lights are on. Pelvic bones are widening. Combs are reddening. Can someone please explain to them (along with every other bird I have that is the same age and not laying yet...Barnevelder, Isbar) that I AM NOT PATIENT?!? Twenty-one days to hatch, weeks to know their sex, months to lay...poppy cock.

And, before you ask...Yes, I've had two children and waited 9 months for both of them. I didn't like that wait either. ;)

I also love science, enjoy a challenge, AND am a glutton for punishment. I'll have to find you on FB!

Well, hubby says he would rather stay a one dog family when Gracie passes.
The long hair in the house is pretty bad from an Aussie even when she is brushed and clipped.
The breed is wonderful with cattle, sheep, and poultry.

Lol. I'm Rinda Sudweeks Myers. There's only one of me I'm sure!

No prob. They do great with the goats... still working on poultry mainly the female. Merlin mostly ignores them. Harper ignores them as long as I'm in sight so she knows better. If I'm out of sight she will kill everything that moves. She pulls their tail feathers out it's a game with her. Not sure how to stop it because she behaves when I'm present!

Okay, chicken guru question...

Junebug's poo has been of an almost cement-like quality over the last several days, hard and crumbly. I'm really worried that she might end up impacted. I've been giving her crumble, but last night I gave her only some boiled egg and yogurt, hoping that might help her pass it through.

What could cause the crumbly sand-like poo? What's the best natural laxative you can give a chicken that would be gentle on them? Since I have her inside and she's not getting a lower body workout, which I assume normally helps the digestion, can you guys make suggestions for changes to her diet?

Doing a quick internet search... molasses seems to be the most common suggestion. Also you can lube up a gloved finger with KY and rub it around just inside the vent.

Also see this from a vet answer on another site:
A "simple" fecal obstruction would be easily loosened by the following:

Take a lubricated thermometer (preferably a rectal thermometer as they are blunted)
Insert it into the vent.
Any stool and urate matter should be easily freed this way.

@Kyzmette one more idea for you: http://www.olyfarmstead.org/olive-oil-enema-for-chicken-constipation/ Puppy pictures! I promise not to post any more here at least until they are mobile with eyes and ears open. But they are SO stinkin' cute! Boy: Boy: Boy: Girl: Girl:
I bet your kids are soooo in love! They look so sweet and pudgy and healthy. :) I have so many silkie/sizzle eggs in the incubator it's crazy and beautiful! I'm really hoping for partridge sizzles I can cross with my porcelain roo. Seems like I'm mostly hatching splash tho. @HeyBigRhondaq are you getting eggs from your ameraucanas? I'm really wanting pure ameraucana eggs and I love the b/b/s ameraucanas. I'm hoping to free range them with the SFHs in the future and have some good sized eggs to eat that are obviously different than the SFHs. Anyway, let me know if you're ever getting enough to sell. We are getting almost 3 duck eggs everyday from our 3 girls. Which is pretty incredible as we're not getting much from anyone else. Although the silkies are laying more than the bantams.
