***OKIES in the BYC III ***

hey guys- has anyone dealt with a prolapse in a roo?? poor porthos had one tonite, rinsed and put it back in, can that be caused by dehydration?

What does his poo look like? Can he pinch off a loaf or is it runny?
Give him electrolytes. KY jelly to lubricate and moisten the opening.
If it happens again, he cannot be trussed like a cow or pig....so a little Preparation H to help shrink the outside tissue.

Hey guys! I'm in Tulsa. Anyone want me 2 roosters? They are maturing and we can't keep them. The white one is a good rooster and doing his job but I don't want him to hurt the kids and the crowing might annoy my neighbors.
The red rooster is more subdued and hasnt crowed yet.

Any takers?

@DustyDave

The red one I think is a production red or rir.
The other I am not sure. Here are more pics. They are older pics. I will get another one later today.

ok, at this point mostly white, i am assuming a vent gleet issue- maybe dehydration with the excessive heat - so he is in the spare bathroom, it is not as swollen but is poping out periodically, antibiotics are not helpul with ventgleet?

No. But you can use OTC Monistat (buy the generic, much cheaper) and apply that topically. Gleet is a yeast infection. I've read of people FEEDING it to the birds too, to kill the yeast overgrowth throughout the digestive system, but I question the safety and effectivity of that. After you treat for 5-7 days give some plain unsweetened yogurt to build his good probiotics back up.

I've started stashing shotguns everywhere so I can just reach out for one. Hawks and owls used to leave when they saw me, now they just circle around. My young grandson came in the other day and said there was a hawk standing in the pen the birds were in. That pen is completely covered by a low hanging pecan tree. Guess he was looking at the menu.

Some of that good old military camo netting zip tied to the top goes a long ways in combating predatory bird issues. At least while they are in the pen. With all the mice, gophers n moles drowned I reckon pickings are slim in some areas. I still got rabbits n squirrels abundant but noticed a lot of armadillos n skunks drowned so chicken has moved up on the menu.
