Give it some time.... as word gets around it can get bigger as long as the farmers selling what they got are good and tasty

Hi all my BYC friends. Just home from Chupps Auction for the first time. Beastly hot early the critters were suffering from the heat especially if they had no water or shade available. True its under a shed but...the sun moved and the east end had no shade saw chickens in a cage dead from the heat shameful. when a drink of water and a feed sack over the top of the pen would have prevented this from happening. It only takes one persons neglagance to get us all a bad reputation. We would have watered them but it was too late when we saw them. I won't go back until the weather cools off. I was pleased with what my birds brought and they were not out of my sight until they sold.

LOL Thank you all for the kind concerns for my health!!!! I am sorry but I didn't get any jelly made today but I did get the lawnmowers started out around the chicken pens(barrowed 3 sheep and 5 goats from my cousin for a couple days!!!) Right now I have a splitting headache and my tooth feels like it has a stick of dynomite in it that just blew up!!! It hurts to breath, took two PainOff pills and am going to relax. Have a dentist apt. for Mon eve. Kids headed out to do chores, I need to go supervise but don't feel like it, be back later!!! Lynn

I thought 4:30 a.m. would be plenty early to cage the birds I was taking to the flea market in Tulsa. Turns out it was an hour too late. By the time I got to the teen duck pen I found a skunk still snacking on a gander. Stupid skunk. No more duck for breakfast for that stink bomb. Since I couldn't repair the break in the fence in the dark, I moved the ducks to a different pen. Note to self: Mending a fence is easier than moving 25 hungry ducks!

After moving, caging, and loading birds, I had to take a second shower to get rid of Oder Le Pew. I didn't make it to the flea market until 8:30. My favorite spot was already taken. Drat. I managed to sell everything I brought except, you guessed it, two ducks. They're in the pool right now making "You're a loser" noises at their buddies since they missed riding in the truck today. Gosh I'm really tired, but I think I'd better go out and fix that fence before it gets dark.

I am going to have to move due to the storm damage so I will be selling my chickens. Currently moderman has them at his house.

for u cochin lovers I have a blue banty and buff banty, some silkiies.

could some of us keep them on loan until you get situated again? that way you wouldn't lose them...

I did think about that but I had a mixed barnyard flock so I figured that this would be a good time to start over with some breeds that I would like to work with. That is the good thing about chickens, you can always get more... and more.... and more.

Hi all, I laid down for a while, still have some headache pain but tooth is not hurting too bad. Don thanks for the PM, I will try the garlic pills! I also have an article I would like to share from another forum, I think we could all use this, it sounds like a good idea!!! Lynn

The tonic I make is simple, I use a quart jar...put about 1/4 cup of good unsulfured molasses in it, 1/2 tsp cayenne, and fill it with unpasteurized ACV. The right ingredients make all the difference. The molasses needs to be unsulfured (I use Tree of Life brand), the cayenne needs to be at least 40,000 heat units, and the ACV needs to be raw and unfiltered (I use Bragg brand). On newly ordered chicks, I put about 1/2 cup of this into a quart of water and offer as their only water source for about a week. I use a couple of tablespoons per quart of water after that. I've never had a case of pasty butt since I started using it....and we've got about 100 chicks/turkeys/ducklings in brooders right now.

The tonic works great for stressed or ill birds as well.

If you are concerned about giardia the bleach is the least expensive way to go...but I would use either grapefruit seed extract (just a couple of drops in a gallon of water) or ACV if possible. If you grow your own garlic, adding a clove of garlic to the water will help also. The ACV, grapefruit seed extract, and/or garlic will help the chickens' bodies fight infection.

Lynn, so glad you have a dental appointment Monday. I'm sure you know that infected teeth can cause problems to your whole system. Glad to know you feel better, but DON'T skip that appointment!
