You guys! I had my very 1st incubation attempt because I so desperately wanted at least just ONE Blue Cochin and couldn't find any online. I have no experience hatching chicks so I'd pretty much convinced myself none would hatch. I got on Ebay and had 16 eggs from Blue Cochins shipped from North Carolina and 15 Polish eggs (my daughter wanted those). I ended up with *8* Cochins and 4 Polish and I'm thrilled! I didn't think any at all would hatch! I heard such horror stories about shipped eggs and the heat and bad 1st hatches. Heck, I was going to be thrilled with just ONE Cochin out of the batch and I got 8!! 12 chicks out of 31 shipped eggs doesn't sound like much. But it's 12 chicks more than I thought I'd get!! Several of the Cochins look like they'll be Splashes, but at least 5-6 are going to be BLUE BLUE BLUE! Just like I wanted so bad. Here's a picture of 2 of them.
It's so hard worrying over these guys and if they're going to hatch....but I'm already thinking how pretty the Yokohamas are and how I might try just one more time lol!

Went to town this morning to run errands and go by the feed store.
Stopped in the see DGibson at the tire shop. We had a nice visit. Really, this gentleman is a wealth of knowledge about chickens and is a hoot to talk with. He's been showing chickens for a long time and knows a lot of breeders. Gives great hugs too.
Don, I put 5 pounds of oats on to soak for 70 chickens....that should give them a taste to start on.

Running out to start water in the garden under the fruit trees...will be at it all day. I've outfitted all soaker hoses with those snap together ends so it only takes a few minutes outside to move hoses and connect the soaker hoses...but I'm drenched when I come back in...loving iced tea!

There are so many veriables on shipped eggs, it is what it is. I would never pay alot of money for them but sometimes it's the only way to get a certain breed.
