In the show "Life after People" they say longhorns are one of the few breeds of cows that will survive w/o people, they said most of the domestic cow bred today are to specialized or relient on humans to survive w/o us, but not longhorns.

Hello to every body else.
Had a scare yesterday involving our cat. Murdock is a long haired tuxedo kitty who likes to disappear for a few days at a time, but in the heat we have really been worried about his absence.
Walking around the back of the barn, I smelled something dead and began looking for what it was...hoping it wasn't the cat.
Followed my nose to the watertank that was empty...no cattle in the lot...and in a two inch space under the tank found a dead black snake with one of my ceramic eggs in its gut. Ceramic Eggs 1/snake 0
Of course we had two ceramic eggs missing so that means one more snake somehere.
Still had not found Murdock until hubby and I took the Ranger out to check the rows of hay bales. There was Murdock perched on the 7 foot brushhog. He darted underneath it, but I was able to coax him out. He is now in the cool hot tub room with litterpan, food and water and the chickens that were moved in there last week.
Corrected my typing...wish I could type as fast as my speller goes...

Thanks kassundra,those were beautiful pics. They are the most picturesque(spelling) breed there is I believe. And they just seem to say "Oklahoma"!

Yes, I'm surviving, I do think the heat is beyond ridiculous, but still would rather deal w/ this then winter! Yes there have been lots of heat related calls, but mostly people being STUPID in the heat, not drinking water, or worse lots of ETOH and heat, and for the record YES BEER IS ETOH!!!!!!! I mostly hate what it's doing to my garden, still not tomatoes, don't know if my plants will make it until fall when maybe I'll get some if the heat breaks. I am wanting to start planting for a fall cool crop, but that is pointless right now, maybe in a few weeks, still should have enough time before a hard killing freeze. I have started another insect colony, this time meal worms, just started it yesterday so it will be several months before I can start harvesting them.

You can cure stupid! I am also amazed that they aren't smart enough to figure it out. Sad that they breed too!
Don't feel alone with the garden, I['m pretty sure if you don't have all day everyday to tend them there is no way to keep them alive this year. I am disappointed too. i would like to do a fall crop but don't know if I will even try but I might plant some kale for the chickens. Meal worms! I use to have to buy them for the lizards the kids had. I look forward to it cooling off so I can get my building up & get a start of your roaches!

While we were thinking there was no way we'd ever get her, Moe jumped up in the tree and scared here down! That is the only time I have seen him notice a chicken. I'm still not planning to introduce any to him though.
