***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I almost called you today to see if you were home. I was doing a show in Midwest City and I finished up my part around 10:30 and had some time but I decided I was too tired and had a long drive so I just came on home. If I had known Kronk was around I would have stopped for sure.

I have several ameraucana roosters. Arnold and Andre, my two black ameraucanas are huge, both almost 24" tall. I have a ameraucana x maran and he is not so big. The one thing about EEs and ameraucanas is they are hefty, solid birds. It always amazes me when I pick them up, how heavy they are. Unlike my big fluffy butted cochins which are powder puffs comparably speaking.

Okay so I am now the owner of a bunch of naked necks. A neighbor down the road had a bunch he needed to get rid of and I offered to take them for him, but I am not a NN type of girl.

No, showgirls do not count as naked necks because they have black skin, so there.

There are two roosters who are really big. One looks to be blue/red and the other is red/black. There are I believe 7 or 8 hens and about 10 -12 chicks of various ages. It looks like at least one or two of the chicks are frizzle NN, although most of them appear to be red, there are a couple of white ones. Of the hens, most of them are red but there is at least one or two cream colored ones. I may keep on hen to scare my city friends when they come over, with stories of radiation or chemical exposure mutating chickens,

but the rest are going to Cement with me, along with some extra EE I do not need.

So this means I am bring the truck, which I did not want to do but there are really too many birds to haul in my little prizm, no matter how I pack them.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. I am not really looking for or need anything except building supplies for chickens and home but that has never stopped me from buying before.

Hubby has been talking about getting a swamp cooler for the hen house for the past two years. Didn't want to pay for a brand new one. Yesterday we went into Shawnee for feed and saw one sitting at "Nick's Nest" on the corner of Highland and Hwy 18. Called about it this afternoon and went to pick it up. All refurbished with a new pump and belt as well as side panels. It's up and running in the barn running air into the doorway of the hen house. We put the plexiglass panel back up on the top half of the screen door and the fan is blowing under that. Dropped the temps in there by 15 degrees. You could hang a hammock in there and sleep comfortably. Hubbs is now talking about cutting a hole in the side wall of the hen house keeping the unit in the barn close to the water spigot. The girls are loving it.

Temperature at I40 and Hwy 18 was !121 degrees on the truck thermometer!!!

Jarvis roo has learned to go from his floor roost to the roost bar that is 18 inches off the ground and then to the roost table that is 30 inches off the ground in the teen pen.

Still waging war w/ the squash bugs, they are starting to eat my tomato plants! Had no idea they would do that, what other plants will they eat? I do think I am at least at a draw if not winning on the warfront. The tomato worms are vicious, I've been feeding everyone I find to the girls, trouble is they can do so much damage in such a little time, and they are so hard to see.

I've started broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage seed, don't know how successful I am going to be, and even though the corn came up not sure if my 3 sisters is going to work out.

Their calling for cooler weather here next week too cowboy! Sure hope its lots cooler,I need to build some pens.Got the yard mowed after supper and got the cochins all boxed up for the sale tomorrow. Decide I didn't really like them all that much. Gives me room for keeping more mottled OEs. I've got one pen of them taah are all mismarked, wrong colorol or both and I am puting them together to create a "barnyard pretty bantam". They should sell good I think. Of course they won't be as pretty as my barnyard pretty" wyandottes. They are comming in a colorful assortment this year too.

Sounds like muskey is getting ready to set someone up in the NN business. Should be a lot of bidders on them.

I hope to sooner or later get this picture uploading figured out, or are newbies only allowed one upload a day ?

ok, when you upload the image, copy the bottom line of code, and paste it in your message- that should work

OOOOOO! Your new painting/avitar is fabulous. Is it a commission? The owner will be so happy with it.

Wayne, we need that cooler weather.

Kassaundra, best time to find those pesky horn worms is to go looking early in the morning with a cup of coffee....look from west to east towards the light. They glisten a little.

Dozer man got two tin horns (26 footer and a 30 footer) in the creeks and partially covered them to set in place. Had his backhoe today. Will be scraping and digging dirt with the dozer tomorrow to work up a stock pile of dirt to transport to finish covering them. The last tin horn is a 40 footer and will be a booger to put in. All in all will need about 35 loads of "10 wheel" dirt. That amount of dirt removed will make a nice sized pond.

From a reliable source: Diesel prices are going up this weekend by 26 cents....time to fill those reserve tanks. Increase is coming due to stock market activity today.
