Predators are fairly predictable based on the actual animal, You cantalope could have been a few rabbits, they love them or a opossum. They will frequent right after dusk and before dawn. Bobcats almost always right after dawn and about 1 1/2 - hours after. Coons tend for 2-3 hours after dusk. Coyotes, are a fickle animal and if they have pups are unpredictable otherwise similar to deer early morning, early afternoon, and dusk or shortly after.
I would go with coon on the cantalope. I have hunted coon 40 years and they will run about all night and some in the day time. Lots of it depends on the weather etc.

My dad usually gets up around dawn and said he's watched coyotes run off with his watermelons.
