***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning folks! Cowboy,I haven't met your son but I am sure he will be a fine young man. He was raised in a pigeonloveing household so he has already learned a lot of patience, stability, love of life, and gentleness. I'm sure you are proud and I am sure he will be a credit to you.

Been cooking all morning. Wife is haveing a potluck today and she volunteered the meat. So I have been cooking a chicken in lemon pepper with mushrooms and breadcrumbs and parmessean. Its all in the oven browning now, then I have to high tail it to Bowling green to get it there in time for the dinner, She said don't be late since you have the main course. I said ,well that means they can't start without me!lol. She wasn't amused! needs to lighten up!lol

We had a trace of rain last night and that was it. May get more sat.

I have a new weapon in my war w/ the squash bugs!

It is working great, but I can't take credit for it I read the idea on a garden forum. I take my dust buster out w/ me and vaccume the suckers right up. It works real well on the sub adults and eggs, not so well on the adults though.

Now I have to watch yard sales for a Dustbusters! Got rid of ours since we never used it!

Saw on Lawton craigslist free goats & chickens in elreno. Says other stuff too & had a phone #.

Off to pack the car before it gets any hotter. Why am I taking the kids to an outdoor concert when it is so hot out???

Okladoodle are you doing a whole chicken? I need a good lemon pepper reciepe for a whole chicken. DD loves it & always ask me to lemon pepper chicken. Tried once but didn't taste like lemon or pepper!

Matt I have crossed my BlueRed cock with Dun hens and came out with some pretty colors but not sure what is in the background of my colors so could be different each time I mate them. I have pics of some of the chicks, can't figure out how to load them right now sinse I am using the computer at the library. Come look at them sometime. Lynn

Dun with Lav. is Platinum.
Dun with andalusion would be an interesting combination as both are expressed best as 1 copy of teh gene and both present with lacing, may be interesting.

Platinum is gorgeous, but I am going to find me a dun and a blue to cross, just to see what I come up with. Hope I can find them from good quality breeders though. I think dun x and. blue, or dun x splash would be very interesting.

Kass do you soak your bean seeds before planting? Try doing that and covering with a little mulch till the sprout, and keep them damp . You can plant the same beans you buy and eat in the stores also. just do them the same way. I like to use Okra plants in my flowerbeds for a nice green backdrop!!! You would be surprised how many compliments and questions i got about my pretty yellow folwers in the back of the bed!!! Most people don't like the itch of picking Okra is why they don't plant I think! Lynn

My Okra plants are amazingly beautiful, and they are just the clemson spineless, not the fancy orange or red ones. Tall, lush, thick, green etc............... but not an okra in sight!!!!! I figure there is a little to much nitrogen for them.

I bought the egyptian walking onions online, they will self perpetuate so once I get them established they will keep me in onions for the rest of my life!!!!! The onion bulbs will be smaller, but just put 2 in a recipe, after all the best things come in small packages don't they!!!!

I have tried beans several times this year w/o success, I am going to try one more time this fall I have yellow bean seeds left.

I plan on hitting the ground running this spring too. Can't wait to see how successful the chicken garden will be and the changes I have planned for from this seasons problems.

I have identified several issues this year and researched some potential problem solvers so we'll see.
