Depends on what you use it for. A Brother is a good hardworking machine that allows you all the standard options. I love my Bernina. I use it to quilt and to sew clothing in all kinds of fabrics. It does have decorative stitching options too.

i am really surprised at the waterbirds- the pekin will wake up and immediatly start quacking for her buddies, the girl goose has a strangest honk, almost like she has a sore throat- the swedish and harlequin are quieter and mutter alot!

the nn cockerel squeaks still, his brother a cochin is behind him on that- it is lively around here in the morning!

Beth good to see you back on we've missed you on the thread as well,

Coral the visiting goat is much better today playing with her new friends and calling out now every time she sees me walk by LOL

Sure did enjoy the weather today I should have got a lot more done outside maybe I'll make up tomorrow for being a slacker today :)

I sew on my grandmother's origional Singer treadle machine. It has a 1940's vintage motor attatchment. It doesn't zigzag or reverse but it will sew chiffon or leather. It is pretty too, with nickle silver details. I also have Grandma's buttonholer attatchment. It is pre WWII and is solid steel, makes the best buttonholes. Mom told me Grandma saved money from selling eggs to buy it.
I don't know about modern machines. I have a 1970's portable Kenmore if I want to sew zigzag. I think modern Singers don't have the quality that the oldies did. My Mom has her 1960's Singer that is a great machine too. So many modern machine just aren't as durable, lots of plastic parts. If I had to replace mine I'd look for an old one. I know some sewers that have Berninas.

A lot depends on price point you are concidering, and how much / what kind of sewing you want to do. (Do you want to be able to embroider w/ it too, quilt, sew clothing, are you using it every day or just a couple of times a year etc....)

Nanakat, who wouldn't love a bernina!!!!!

Well it looks like the rain is coming our way rather than going towards you all out in Okla. And Texas. Sure wish we could share it. It's rained all evening here. I had to move the g. Pigs back inside to keep them dry. Well going to bed ,check with you all in the morning!

Poco if I were to get a new machine with no limitations from dh I would get a bernina or a singer embroidery machine that also sews. Dh has told me once to get the machine I want, but hard for me to justify $2,000 on a sewing machine when I had loved my $200 kenmore for 10 yrs. Overstock has good prices on machines. I bought both of my girls brother machines to learn on & hated them!!!! I wont buy another brother. I know the more expensive ones are suppose to be pretty good, but the girls machines were overall an awful experience. They both have kenmore machines now.

I dropped dh & all the kids off @ frontier city today & went to Lynn's to pick up some birds. Came home with 9 small guineas-- 3 royal purple-- the rest pearl. Also 7 adults -- 4 different colors. There is a real light blue one-- don't think I have one that color-- until now!!! Also picked up a naked neck rir-- had to get him since the only birds I have are rir. Kids & dh thinks he is ugly but I like him. I broke the rule of quarantine & let the roo out down by the barn. I said I was going to leave him caged, but he just didnt seem happy in the cage. He spent about 10 minutes eating & drinking then decieded to let everyone else know he was there. He sounded off for a good 5 minutes. Then went & found several of my other rooster & told them they were no longer in charge. He even went & took Fat Louie's lady's from him. The roo investigated all around the areas my birds frequent while they free range, then he went back to the coop. Dh said he thinks the roo feels @ home.
Thanks for all the great birds Lynn!
