***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We're home from the city where roger was given steroid shots in his spine for some sciatic nerve pain....says he can't feel the shooting pain down his leg...so that's good. His idea of taking it easy is being out in the barn with his brother changing the fuel tank switch on the dump truck. The are discing up the dry pond bottoms and hauling dirt back u to the low areas around the fields and terraces.

They brought me a huge scoop of fine sandy mix for the dusting boxes in the chicken pens.

One year when we lived in the city (15 years ago) I was thrilled to get a load of manure mix for the garden from the stockyards for Christmas ....I'm easy to please....

They are taking advantage of what nature has given them by cleaning out the pond!

I was happy to get dirt & sod. LOL.

Glad the pain is gone for you DH

Everyone who has tried them seem to really like them.
You could cut the recipe in half to try it out, but you'll end up making more.

No cutting in half for me. I am looking for some easier stuff to start out with on canning & this fits the bill.

Poco did you find a new sewing machine yet? If not when all that hard work is done you should take a trip to sears & play with a few kenmores. They really are my favorite machine without spending thousands. I will always admire the high end ones, don't know if I will ever take the plunge on one!

Nankat has you dh tried chiropractic adjustments? Really helps the pain and makes walking easier. I will be sure to try the pepper recipe next year. I always grow a surplus of hot peppers, last yr I only planted one plant just to make sure I wasn't having to rehome peppers everyfew days.....

Sooner, the new chicken building sounds like it will be nice. Do you do standard or bantam rir?

Think I am going to set some eggs in the incubator today. Will be a mix of rir, EE & maybe some NN. That roo I got from lynn has been loving on the ladies bunches. Saw a single female guinea that laid an egg @ Blanchard auction. My guineas haven't laid an egg in a month. Have lots of pullets that we hatched in April & may that should be laying soon so that will be exciting.

I look forward to that building since now all the chickens go in the house when we have to wash for a show.

I have bantam RIR

Sure....and you hesitated to take a jar when first offered.... mawahahahahaaaaaa another convert!!!

Bread and Butter Jalepenos
Soak for three hours and then drain the liquid and pack jalepenos and onion in sterile jars:
6 quarts sliced jalepeno peppers
1 quart chopped onion
9 cups water
1 cup pickling salt

Have your jar lids sterilized in hot water waiting

Place garlic cloves in each jar with the peppers and onion (for quart jars I put 2 or 3 and for pints 1 -2)

Boil vinegar and spices for three minutes and pour immediately over the peppers and seal jars with the sterile lids:
6 cups sugar
6 cups vinegar (I used white)
1 tablespoon tumeric
1 teaspoon mustard seed
1 teaspoon celery seed

I did not have to water bath these. You want the peppers to have consistancy. There is enough salt absorbed, sugar and acid from the vinegar to "keep" the pickles.
But if any jars don't seal, store in the fridge or cover with water in your waterbath canner and bring to a boil for 5 minutes and lift to cool down.

When you come pick up those wyandotte eggs, I'll send you home with another quart....

Are these spicy? Describe the flavor for me?

Sweet, like a very good bread and butter pickle on teh front end, then just a little bite to follow. They are outstanding..

Sooner, you bring enough peppers and we will make plenty... if you don't like them I'll keep them. I promise nothing will go to waste. I could let you try some when you come by if your quick about it. I only have 1 jar here.
