My favorite potato chips (Pringles) have wheat in them! Rice a roni, which of course my kid loves as junk food night stuff... yeah, wheat in THAT too (semolina and duram flour are wheat flours). Certain name brands of ice cream have wheat in them! It's just mindboggling. No wonder people are becoming allergic to strange crap, because companies are overexposing us to things that our bodies don't *need* that much of!
Yeah I'm having to cook as much as possible, which of course sucks for James and Dee because my cooking is... well, let me just say that my food leaves something to be desired. Like... edible-ness.
The only BBQ flavored chip that I have found w/o wheat is stax, and a lot of chips have wheat, almost all mixes, boxes, soups, ready to eat or just heat and eat have wheat. Ice cream that has cookie dough, brownie, cobbler, etc.... a lot of candy bars, even some seasonings and boullion have wheat.
Chex has several gluten free options and they are good, betty crocker has a couple of good tasting (not good for you) gf mixes, a brownie, chocolate chip cookie, and something else can't remember off the top of my head. It is hard wheat / gluten (other flours other then wheat have gluten) is in soooooooo much stuff. Good news is you can lose weight! lol
Some of the bigger grocery stores have many more GF options then they used to, and a lot of the health food stores have more decedent options. Used to you could only get "healthy" versions of food GF (no chocolate cake or chocolate chip cookies, just the granola like cookies etc....)
Whew! Gluten free is hard, our daughter was diagnosed at 18 months with Celiac disease (gluten intolerance) which means no wheat, rye, barley and untested oats. But since our diagnosis in 2009 we have found the variety of gluten free foods has increased dramatically. We recently found Bisquick gluten free pancake mix (absolutely wonderful!!!) and the best pasta on the market is Quinoa grain pasta. We eat more pasta now than we did when we weren't gluten free. There are also several restaurants that have GIG (gluten intolerance group) approved menus; Johnny Carinos, Outback Steakhouse and a few others that I forget at the moment. While it is difficult it can be done as we have proven for two years now, keep your chin up and it will get easier as time passes.
Blessings to you,
Bo
