***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I keep putting it off but eventually today I have to go clean feet, legs, change pine shavings and wipe teh birds down again that are going to show Saturday... It is rough getting 40 birds ready and keeping them clean for a week, but the boys enjoy it quite a bit... so its well worth it. They are taking some of our best birds anyway so both me and teh boys have some great expectations..

She is looking really good. She is taking her to the Fayettville show, I just have to get her a transport cage. She is getting better about me picking her up & such not that she made a big fuss but when I had to beat the snake to death that was in her pen it made her alittle shy of me. LOL.

I use my A-frame pens, they can be seen on our website.. the birds do very well in them both summer and winter, no frostbite, little to no frozen water, cooler in summer, warmer in winter, good ventilation, they also act like miniature quarantine pens the way we move them the birds are back on teh same ground every 4 weeks, they have fresh grass all the time, clean pens, and will never be on the ground another bird was on.

Like I said swing by sometime

When you get the building up let me know.. I will share some conditioning pen plans and such to keep them in good shape once cleaned up, they also work great for special matings.

Nice to see we have new members with guineas! Was out watching my guineas earlier & I am thinking the chocolates might be close to becoming my favorite new color.

Anybody plan on making the auction that was around Guthrie? Is it a one time auction? Or is it suppose to be monthly?

We actually have 2 wks without my sisters kids-- they are @ their dads-- so was thinking I should do something with just my family-- imagine a chicken auction wouldn't count as family time.

We use a brooder building, set up with a series of 7 temperature pre-set metal brooders, then 6 cages for teh birds inside teh building, they go outside at 13 weeks of age. For the young birds once outside they are on thier own to cope with temps. the Breeder pens have lights but I use 5000 kelvin CFLs this is for winter breeding. I do not add heat or cool for teh birds so as to keep a hardier bird for breeding stock.

if you had Modern Game or something with an extremely long leg and very little feather then heat would be good idea. but only so much as to keep them above 35 degrees.
