***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We got a call earlier this evening from a friend in the area. An Oklahoma geologist team was in Meeker today visiting with local authorities about the recent swarm of quakes in our area. Apparently they have occurred on a known fault line running between Sparks and Tecumseh. There are more quakes predicted over the next several days...some may be larger....supposedly a 6 point quake might come as early as tonight. Guess who was going around taking photos and mirrors off the walls and shelves. And...Red has been shaking for the past hour and is hiding under the desk. Also checked the security/stability of the roost bars and the nest box.

Poor Red, sounds like a sleeping pill may be in order. Sounds like reasonable precautions, stay safe out there. We felt them here but not like you guys.

I agree with Kass... they usually leave the horns on does and dehorn the males. Never heard of a doe using her horns for evil

. They may tend to get their heads caught in wire panels and such, but they usually learn where not to put their heads pretty quickly. There's also the advantage of having something to hang on to when you need to catch one and move it.. much easier to do with horns.

I know aftershocks are to be expected, but seriously why???? I guess after eathquake season comes the winter weather.

Hope you & everyone else near the fault stays safe-- I know it shook our place more than I want to experience again!!!

Ok -- I will let the ladies keep the horns. Just nervous with the kids.

We were mounting the nesting boxes today (in effort to keep the dog from eating eggs). As we were working my biggest roo stomped his feet @ my nephew. I told him to stay away from the roo & watch out. With in 10 min the roo went after him. I don't know why or what happen, but that roo was after him. Think 100+ lb goat would be worse to tangle up with!

Wow NanNa! Hope you don't get to skake rattle and rolling to much!lol Poor dog, must be ruff being afraid of such things. I'm sure Izzy would be the same way. She just becomes a vasket case with thunder!

Hey Kass I just found the gourd tradeing thread. and signed up. Don't let me forget about it when it comes to send them in! lol

Hey Joe did you do good at Chubbs sale? Did you buy anything you needed to get a start of?I would have liked to have seen those 27 cages you had to take! Surely would have found something I thought I couldn't live without!lol. I like the sale you guys are haveing at Stilwell. Can't wait to get back there and be a regular participant. It makes it so much more fun when you have a place to get rid of your extra stock and to find really good stock to start up new breeds with. If I had been in my truck I would have been bidding on several things there!

The Shamo hen that we have here in the house has been sounding like a love-sick tomcat for about that amount of time too. Just went out and checked the horses and they are on the nervous side with the gelding acting more like a stallion. Maybe something is up.

I saw that you signed up. This will be my second ever blind seed trade, the first one was last month and it was awesome I got some cool seeds, can't wait to see on this one. I keep meaning to ask on that thread if we send multiple "6 pks" if we will get multiple "6 pks" back.

The pens look great. One adjustment that I would suggest though is to put either a 1x2 or 2x2 on top of the wire where it meets the boards. Sandwich the wire between the boards and it will be a lot stronger and less likely to pull away if something should try it.
This morning a mile S. of the house we saw 4 Coyotes headed to lay up for the day after a hard night of looting.

There's a 2x4 at the top of the welded wire and the fencing is nailed/steepled to that. Is that what you mean? Plus the 2x4's are nailed to 4x4's. One thing they don't have is covers on top though, but the fences are 6' tall. Still deciding on how to do that. If it's raining though they have their building to go into.
I hope the coyotes steer clear of me!
