there are no silly questions, except "Can I read through the thread, catch up and get back with everyone?" Now that would be silly.

Welcome to the thread, you have found a great group who are here to chat, and help you with your concerns as you go along, oh yeah and to help you aquire more birds and hatching addictions.

More birds? My biggest fear is getting too many chickens for my backyard coop. I do however keep thinking about getting Bantams or Silkies or Silkie Bantams

Right now I have 2 Polish/Araucana mixes and 2 Cuckoo Marans. I also have a small light brown chick that I'm not sure of. She seems to have larger full wings but the rest of her is still downy looking.

if you like friendly egg layers, look into Bantam wyandotte, or bantam Cochin. they both lay a medium sized egg, eat much less, are very tame, and you can keep a whole bunch in a small area..

of course we still need to introduce you to chicken math too. it takes a while to master it but is very advantageous once you do. It's not like any kind of math you have ever taken in school or college

Lawton has a limit of 12 poultry. No restrictions on types-- so you can get 12 turkeys if you like! The neighbors would love you for sure! There is an application & $30 (I think) fee. They come out & inspect the place then you are good to go to keep the birds. If you dot get a permit you will get a nice letter in the mail giving you a wk to get things legal. Easier to get the permit before they force you to, that way they are nicer when they come inspect!

That's my biggest fear too! The only way to avoid it is to get more coops because the chickens are inevitable. Always plan for more

you are in a thread full of chicken addicts

In fact if you look back a few pages KSANE swore off any new birds for a while, I pop on today and she's already got a new one!

What on earth is that?? lol A minnow basket? rofl!

hey hey now... thats an OKIE chandelier.. Minnow Bucket? where in teh world would you get an idea like that? You have no idea how much encouragement it took for her to buy that ornate piece of porch jewelry. we were all quite proud of her.

Shame on you all! You let that poor defenseless woman buy something like that and you let her take it home to her family?? lmao!

Flo has that big of a comb and is a female? I may have more female Silkies that I'd originally thought then. Those ornery guineas will be fine and stay plenty warm. Meanest little birds ever invented lol
And as far as the rest of you all......you're as are mean as the guineas the way you tempt the weak-willed with birds! I went up to June's shop and got the CUTEST MOST ADORABLE little Serama boy who is sharing an egg sandwhich with me right now and making the "I found food" noise for me

He's trying to share his food that I gave him and take credit for finding it

He's totally awesome! June said he'd never been handled before but I'd never in a million years have guessed that. I'm so thrilled to have a pigeon-sized bird that has the wonderful chicken temperament. I woke up this morning having no idea I'd get such a cool bird today. I'm so paranoid about him getting sick, I've even got a bottle of hand sanitizer hanging on his cage. He was sooo easy to bathe and blow dry, too! He just SAT there watching me. Gawd, he's so sweet. I guess someone forgot to tell him he's in a new home because he sure doesn't act scared or stressed.
Seriously, if any of you have considered one of these guys for inside, talk to June.
Oh, I named him Channing.

Ha! I still find myself wanting a Faverolles male again, too. Like really bad. If the hen continues to do good here then maybe I'll get the nerve to find another male. Muesky is doing the enabling there

And Michael said he'd keep his eyes open. I don't want to show or breed so pet quality is fine with me.
I made this little Serama a spot on the computer table where my laptop is in the RV. Isn't he adorable?! He just SITS there and watches me and clucks at me, too cool. He's got a bird cage to sleep in or when I'm gone and he can just hang out with me the rest of the time. He's sleeping in the 2nd picture. He had a long day for a little bird!
