Thanks. And definitely appreciate you telling about Harrah's mill being down...that would have been a long drive for nothing.

I just talked to Kassaundra on the phone, she told me of a feed place in Okmulgee..I'm going to try that for now, out of feed after this mornings rounds, but will still go to Harrah to try their GCR after I run out again.

It's The General Store 1330 N Oklahoma, Okmulgee, 918-756-5851

Thanks!

Thanks for the info on the Melatonin......I have to head to the store anyway, so I will pick some up. I gotta do something about the sleeplessness......'cuz I know I am getting beyond cranky!

WOW Kassaundra!

Glad you are okay! That is scary. What type of inspections do you do? We used to do home inspections, mainly for the Tribal Nations and I know we came upon some interesting scenarios.....

Glad you are okay. Glad you had a rescuer that was on the job!

Problem with pepperspray, it's never where you need it when you are in a hurry. Also, less expensive but just as effective it the long range hornet spray can.

Good luck! And a bit of jerky or backstrap would be nice....

Sooner.........I used to be able to be asleep before my head hit the pillow, but alas, anymore I am up on and off allllllllllllllll night!

I try to not take anything to help with sleep because I am alone with the kids and I am afraid I won't hear them if they need me or if something happens in the house. I am lucky that I don't work out of the house, so during the day when I have to I can nap.

Upcdayz.......I will send warm, calming thoughts out for you and the sales people today.........good luck!

I understand not taking anything but you can buy natural stuff that doesn't actually drug you. I found it in the vitamin section & it seems to help me rest alittle better, if you are interested let me know & I will get the name off the bottle.

Melatonin is the natural stuff. Doctors sometimes actually prescribe it. I know your pain. I seldom sleep over two hours a night. Melatonin gives me maybe three or four. I use the chewables. Not to bad and they do relax you.

The other night after I'd posted to MJ that the Silver Lace Cochin pair I got from her were both doing great I noticed the male with that gurgling sound! I brought them both in that night and started them on Tylan 50, I've got Duramycin in their water also. There's 6 Sex Link hens out there with them and every one of those hens is just fine, so I don't get it. These 2 won't go in their building unless it's nighttime, rain or not. That last time it rained in the day time I went out there (like I always do with those 2) and put them in the building. I don't know why they don't go in it out of the rain if it's day time. But it wasn't too much longer after that I noticed the gurgling. Did yours get wet then cold? I always thought respiratory infections came from a virus that was contagious. I just recently read several articles about chickens becoming wet and then getting cold and developing respiratory problems. That was news to me.

Kass!
Glad you're ok! I worked years at a vet clinic and never met a dog who didn't bow down to me. I seem to have that effect on dogs. I'm not afraid of them or can read them or something. I can certainly read them far better than I can humans. I'm at a loss when it comes to reading humans.

I think it's pretty safe to say that they probably started getting sick after last weekends rain. Rain and then cold! Put together a brand new coop (10x12 shed) and they still won't go in either...lol

Sshavney were is liberty mounds? My oldest daughters name is liberty and loves anything that Has her name in it. My youngest daughter Pixie is mad cause there's a statue of liberty but no statue of Pixie.

Liberty Mounds is South of Tulsa but still in Tulsa county. We are between Bixby and Glenpool just short of Mounds...lol

That's funny about your daughter Liberty. My daughter Brooklyn is the same way.

Yes, the longer they are on the vine the better. And when you do cut them, leave about 3 inches of the vine on the gourd. They need to dry with lots of air flow. I set mine on top of the dog pen, a big pen made from 2x4 welded wire. It's in the car port so there is air flow and protection from rain and snow.

You 'gourdheads' talking about gourds bring back old memories....in another lifetime I was a 'gourd artist'....haven't done any for years....but I painted houses 'in the round' on gourds...did collections of streets (like a village) with each house numbered. I think 2005 was my last year to do it. Here is an old picture of some of my larger gourds...these pictures are all I have on this computer, but I will get some finished painted ones off my old computer at home when I get some time.
I liked painting the 'apple' gours and the 'tear-drop' shaped ones...they made the best houses.

June, it is funny you mentioned "in a former life your painted gourds", I did as well. The ones I painted, beaded and decorated were more native american in style for ceramonies and pow-wows and show. The ones I liked the best to paint were the ones they call "Crown of Thorn" gourds. They are the short squat ones that have a ring of spikes sticking around the top of the gourd. Those were a lot of fun to paint.
Unfortunetly. I do not have any of them anymore because they were either sold or gifted. I maybe interested in growing some gourds next year to paint.
Another way to preserve gourds is let them dry out, cover the outside with a thin coating of vasaline or a thick oil (not too much because it will make the outside tacky), set the oven for I believe 250 degrees and bake the gourds for about 30 minutes or until the outside becomes black. Because of pressure points from where the gourds are laying they have to rotated every 5 mins or so. I have done this with and without the seeds in it. If you take the seeds out it will not need as long to bake.
It has been years and years since I have done this, so I think this is right. It sure looks pretty when it is done and it makes them a lot stronger.
