***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Don't even have to bury it. Just lay it flat coming out from the base of the pen and secure with some lawn staples and let the grass grow up through it. As Firefly said be sure to reinforce the sides of the pen, welded wire won't cut it against a dog or most any predator we have around here. The same lathe well secured with wood strips and plenty of screws, if a wooden pen, will work well.

A metal pen one can wire cattle panels over the original wire and stop a dog or large predator. That along with a good quality fence charger, non-pulsing, should stop nearly everything.

A long talk with the neighbor might help too and there is always the option of using rubber shot as they do with bears and even humans. The pepper spray that they use on bears will shoot a stream of about 35 feet but you have to watch which way the wind is blowing.

So, I'm out planting wheat for the girls and they can find it almost as fast as I can plant it...

Hello peeps. It smells good in my house!! I have spent the afternoon baking. Fudge brownies are done. Peanut Butter Haystack cookies are cooling. Zucchini bread is cooled down. Apple Pecan bread is almost done baking.

So what has everyone else been up to today?

Why not just get a bigger cat? Like a Cougar!

Don't cougars eat chickens?

Sorry I thought we were just talking about cat problems. Now that chickens have been added to the equation, then Yes, a cougar will eat chickens unless properly trained.

I have done zero of what I had wanted to today. Yesterday was a looooooong shift and I am tired today, but it is dreary and cold and can't seem to make myself go out in it. Seems like all the days I'm working lately are the sunny nice ones and all my days off are cold, cloudy and dreary.

Well, now with all these Okies holding a knife to my throat and forcing me I really had no choice, did I?? And my husband said these OEGB's are smaller than our Serama so they automatically don't count. Ever. He also informed me that since we didn't INTEND to buy chickens today that means that these guys count in the negative. So evidently I'm down 5 chickens today. Plus I picked up a beautiful Black Star from a friend, she doesn't count either since she's not laying yet. I guess I'll have to go back next weekend because evidently I gave away chickens and didn't get any at all according to these numbers. Here's their pictures, still damp from baths but they're inside. The black & white mottled pullet is sick so I didn't get her out for a picture. She's so petite, I don't know if she's going to make it or not and of course that was my favorite one. Every single one of these guys is super calm and sweet, love to be held and don't want to get down. Is that how they normally act? I decided on these instead of Modern Bantams for the 5x8 pen, by the way.
And the little boy's leg band says "OEGBCA 11 2738" Anyone know what the "CA" means? And I'm assuming the "11" means he was born this year, that's nice that he's young. He sure is sweet.
And Nana, Samson & Popeye are so pretty! I love my Cochin boys.
