neat pic, gonna have to check that out-
why not let the little banty girl hatch a few of a breed you've been wanting?

I'm too scared of the commitment lol! Mostly because I know it's just her instincts telling her to sit and those same instincts would have her abandon the babies when they were 3 wks old and she'd just want to sit on eggs all over again. It's a viscous cycle i tell ya. In the spring I might do that though.

i know with flo, the silkie, nothing will deter her from her mission...LOL! and cindylou is doing good considering she is a first time broody, in her case she will have been broody 6 weeks by the times these hatch- you could try giving her a couple eggs from your own birds just to see how she does?

Her and 4 other girls are in with that little rooster, Spoc. He's really sweet to them all so he's one of the few roosters who 'earned' himself women. So her eggs should be fertile. But what on earth am I going to do when she hatches out 4 boys? Yikes. I know for a fact I'd get attached to them and never be able to give them up. Then I'd be stuck building another bachelor pen. And it wouldn't cure the problem of her wanting to sit on eggs either. I can probably put her in the "nice girl pen" with her sister for a few days to break her of being broody and then put her back where she is.

Now it's just a price waiting game. The auction ends in 3 days so I'll know for sure by then if I got them or not.

I can too no problem. Incubator is up and running right now.

Well we are finally headed home! sIL was two hours late getting to the meeting place! mIL was totally worn out, but she is their and Gods hands now so we are leaning on the Gods side in hopping for the best!

Saw huge flocks of geese in the rice fields between Memphis Little Rock.they just carpet the fields in white!

Sounds like Jarvis is out to get Enabler of the Month award! Lol I would rather see a breeder like that than one of those who doesn't have the time of day for the common folk, and I have met lots of them! Kudos to you Jarvis, your a good man!

i always have a dilemma with that myself- i have an ee cockerel, 2 hatched - him and his sister- so i will probably sell him at the swap in June- but i hear you.... and cindylou has 4 eggs to hatch- i am sure they won't all be girls- so i figure surplus will go to the swap- i don't have pens for extras right now- its tough though, i get to looking at those little faces.........

So we called the daughter to go and let the dog out and the cat in ,an decided to get a room and drive back in the morning. Stopped at a motel in Carlise,Ark. Boy the parking lot is full of picks pulling camouflaged boats, guess tomorrow is a big duck or goose hunting day around here! I'd rather go set some live traps and take them home alive! Lol

Okla, you must be some sort of Saint. You go above and beyond in all you do and I'm always amazed at how giving and patient you are. I admire the Jarvis's for all their help (aka enabling lol) also. But lordy, man-don't you realize what a kind and wonderful man you are yourself?! I wish I had even a fraction of your Saint-like personality.

I placed Chicken Larry with someone on this list and I still feel sick to my stomach when I think about him. I got him thinking he was a female, didn't even raise him myself. I can only imagine the nightmares I'd have if I were to place one I'd raised as a baby. It gives me chills just to think of it lol

Okla, I feel for you and your wife having to go through what your'e going through with getting your MIL cared for in a way she deserves. I hope she gets it. I know how trying it can be. I have guardianship of one of my aunts who turned 90 this year. She has dementia and is living in an assisted living center here in OKC. She gets good care there - better than I could provide for her in my home. She did stay with me for a few months several years ago and it was very difficult. Mostly for me. Having dementia, she can be combative and abusive, but even taking that into consideration, it still hard caring for her. At the assisted living center she gets to mingle with others from her generation. (She's quite the flirt, too. She will bat those eyelashes at any man who gives her a second look!) She also gets regular visits from the doctor, has a room of her own, has nutritious meals provided for her three times a day, can get her hair done at the beauty parlor there, has activities to participate in with the other residents, and has people waiting on her hand and foot at her beckon call. All in all it's a good situation for her and for the rest of the family. I can only hope your MIL can get that kind of care, too. It's hard to watch your loved ones decline in their mental capacity knowing there's little we can do for them in that way, but we can still love them and do what's best for them. My prayers are with you and your family as you go through caring for MIL.
