***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I hope this will help us get the Oklahoma Poultry Federation back up and hosting a show that would
be local right here in OKC. I have the cages and the judges along with some money to back
this up. However for now a clinic to share some skills and have excess to some birds and info.
Anyone have the contact info for the feather less bird?
have a nice day...

beth,
I'm a little confused with that, the OSPF is teh host for the Shawnee Show, where it has been held for over 90 years. Are they considering moving it or is this a different organization you are reffering to?

Guys tip of the day
It is that time of year. The hens are laying, before long there will be chicks everywhere. Time to be ordering from the hatchery's, buying at the auctions etc etc. It is pretty easy to get caught up in the new fluffy little chicks and buy, buy, buy (or hatch, hatch, hatch) and next thing you know, you have to throw this pen in with this pen so you can put these guys here, and when they get older we can stack them in this pen with these guys, and on and on. Having to many chickens is one of the biggest problems chicken people face. More sickness, injured birds, crowded unclean conditions occur do to having more birds than space than about every thing else combined. I know we all want more, and most folks that know anything about chickens will figure out, more birds = more pens. More pens = more building and work. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our fowl is give them the space they need.

? The Oklahoma COUNTY poultry federation is the group I was speaking about.
They have not been active for sometime. They do have all the correct bylaws that
they need and all the supply's. They just need some active members. I have some
kids and family's looking for help and thought this maybe a nice way in getting the
ball rolling again.

beth, thank you for clarifying that. I knew the OSPF (Oklahoma State Poultry Federation) I was not aware of a county org. as well.
What are you in need of? Anything I can help with? If so let me know..
have you considered speaking with Larry Dye, the APA District Rep.? or Sherri Blankenship, the ABA / APA youth director for the state?

So I was off, lol anyway I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday. It has been a bittersweet day for me
My first hatch ever has yielded me 5 babies between last night and today. I am expecting 2-3 more before its over. I ordered 12 eggs, and 18 were shipped to me. Of those I had one blood ring, one early death and the rest were clear so I am pretty happy with my hatch so far. I'm way excited to finally have them here, the last three weeks has drug on and on.
But this new adventure comes with sadness. My bantam faverolle hen passed overnight. I noticed she seemed lethargic Wednesday evening and put a heat lamp on her and some boosters in her water, when she hadn't gotten better on Thursday i gave her some antibiotics. But my actions were fruitless :-/ as many of you know I cleared my flock for the bantam salmon pair and a trio of blues, well it seems the trio of blues is getting put off more every time i try with them, possibly indefinitely. So my poor rooster is now all alone and was very upset when i left this morning, It breaks my heart to lose this girl and to see him so upset. I am now at a loss as to what to do next :( another bantam fav girl seems impossible. I was going to get some bantam cochins again and was putting it off until spring but i may have to start early so my boy will have company.
I think I may try to get to Blanchard for the sale tomorrow if i can find time to get there, when does it start and how long does it usually run? Is there usually a good variety there?
