Non-knitters ignore this.
I always knit on circular needles, and the join between cable and the needle HAS to be smooth, especially for soft yarns like merino. The first needle I used wasn't quite perfect in that respect, and the current one is much better.
I'll post a picture when I get more knitted. This will be slow going.
The knitting bug bit hard this winter, and I don't have enough other yarn to make anything more than small projects. Now I don't have to either wait until I can get to a decent yarn shop or buy cheap (crappy) yarn at the grocery store.
I'm giving it another try on larger needles. Not quite big enough to make lace, but looser than the first try.It'd be pretty paired with a fine silk in a tonal color. I worked with something similar, years ago. It was a beast until I got "the feel" right, then it was one of the nicest pieces I've worked ... and SO SOFT!
