Hubby and I are thinking of converting a 6 person sauna into a chicken coop. We will have to ventilate it somehow. Does anybody have any ideas on windows or something for ventilation? I read that cedar is toxic to chickens and I think this thing has allot of cedar. I don't want dead chickens. I searched the internet and some people say it is toxic and others say its not.

My coops are made of untreated, local harvest, local milled cedar.. I have no problems with the birds.. and fewer bug problems. I like the cedar. If it is finished teh finishing material like any paint may be somewhat toxic but the Cedar will not hurt them.

I read that it depends on what kind of cedar. I have no idea what kind of cedar this is. I know it is very fragrant. It smells so nice. I have also heard it helps with bugs. I think we are going to do it. I want a big coop and I can't pay thousands of dollars.

As far as ventilation-when I made my Silkie boys coop I got some screened vents at Lowe's for like $1.50 each. Here I took a picture for you. You can just use a saw to cut a hole a little bit smaller than the vent and screw it in, I think it even came with the screws. It keeps the rain from blowing in since the louvers are pointed down, yet still gives them ventilation.

Gary took me to work today b/c he needed to keep my car since he has broken two truck windows over the past few days (the original truck window, then the replacement he finally found and put in)!!!

Anyway even though we left at roughly the same time I was almost late to work, seems we have a fundimental difference of opinion. Seems I view the speed limit as more of a ......................................................................................... suggestion, while he views it as .................................... I don't know ........................................................... maybe a law? Such an odd concept!!!!!

speedlmit sgns are jst that, a suggestion, only to be used when the road is in dangerous condition.

lght traffic, nice weather, no troopers around, ya know normal conditions require a speed equal too if not reater than 1.5 times the posted lmit.

if you dont believe me, come drive around tulsa wth me one day durng rush hour. i can make you hide under the seat!

To those of you who are experts at hatching, hopefully you'll be able to help. Tonight I discovered two Serama eggs that have internally pipped. They chicks are chirping inside the eggs and are rocking the eggs around trying to get out.

All 7 of my broody Serama hens steal eggs from each other regularly, and I'm afraid that these two chicks that are trying to hatch will be killed once they start to hatch. That's happened before with this group of hens. I made a new nest in a big plastic tub turned on it's side, and tried to get a hen to recognize and sit on these hatching eggs, but none of them were interested. I tried it with most of the hens, but they immediately went back to their old brooding area. I don't have a hatcher to place the eggs in, so I'm at a loss. Any ideas on how to help make sure these babies aren't killed by the hens? I'd like to give them a chance.

Ok I found the instruction book and it is Western Red Cedar. I am remembering now that it has vents on the top. Do you think I need vents lower down also? Looks like I have allot of research to do online. I'm sure it will be fine as Cjarvis said he has no issues.

now see, a pefect example of profiling. you should be ashamed of your self, i NEVER do that!

there are 2 reasons i drive lke i do, first it gives me more time to figure out where i was gong and what i am supposed to be doing.

second thing is i gotta go!

i have learned to look over the little blue hairs, and sooner. have to look over them, hurts my neck to look down!
