***OKIES in the BYC III ***

all of them ive had over the years have been great, no nasties at all. now geese, thats a differant story! i used to carry a chinese gander around by the head, only way i could keep from getting bit!

yep- our gander decided to play tough guy today, so i grabbed him, sat down with him in my lap- he was not a happy camper....in front of the gang! MA!!!
after trying to nip me a couple times he gave up and we'll see how long he minds his manners! wayne- i sure hope you can knock some sense into him!

have heard black turkeys will prevent hawk attacks- anyone hear that?

Good evening okies< I love hearing about the new babies. I have about (120) 3 - 4 week old RiR and Buff Orphingtons ive hatched that i am selling if anyone is interested and 15-20 ducklings. I am also delivering compost, $50. a truck bed full or $ 100 for a trailer load. Also, I am opening a fresh food market in the Choctaw plaza soon. There will be veggies from my garden, eggs, meats, cheeses, mushrooms, fruit, and much more from local producers and some arts and crafts including hand crafted jewelry. i started to say they were trying to figure out if it was gonna eat them, but then I remembered they were guineas. they dont have the mental capacity for fear!

Well we couldn't resist and went to the Jones auction tonight. Was impressed with no smoking, it was plenty warm and they went at a pretty good speed. LOTS of horse tack, a few chickens and lots of chicks. Chicks sold crazy in my opinion. They clearly aren't "chicken people" kept calling the black chicks Black Australorps/Black Giants and they sold for $2.25 each x how many where in the box. Then some older ones went for $3.00 each (probably 2-3 weeks old). We left wihtout buying anything (may be a new record for us we usually find some kind of something we "need"). We didn't stay for the livestock.

Now dh wants to find an auction for tomorrow night, lol.

Looking forward to a day at home tomorrow all our plans for tomorrow got changed to other days next month. Only thing on the list is going to a friends house to pick up a RIR rooster to mate with my Barred Rocks.

I am looking for a Serama breeder here in Oklahoma.
I am actually wanting hatching eggs at the moment.
I may want to buy a pair or two in the near future.

Any breeder recommendations?

Quoting about Bear and his chicken warmers...
What a great dog!

I would have to agree. And you should see him in action! Let me just say I'm glad he's on my side. :)

Saw jcatblum at the Lawton Farmers Market meeting. Didn't recognize her at first since her back was to me. I kept looking for her to walk in and there she was all the time. We chatted a bit after the meeting.

I'm inspired. Erlene and I have decided we will definitely sell at the market this summer. I'm fixing to order 150 meat birds for delivery in the middle of March, just to test the waters. Folks are telling me market customers are always asking about meat and nobody is selling any, so that's a good sign. Might pick up some turks to sell in the fall as well. Plus it is about time to stock up that egg wagon with another couple hundred birds.

Maybe you can go to the Guy Rose auction outside of Perkins on Saturday morning. They have an interesting mixture of poultry and junk.

I'VE GOT A CHICK!!!!!
Little Rebecca, the Calico Cochin I got from Muesky, hatched a chick today and another one has pipped. There a 6 total under her; 3 of her own and 3 from my Blue Mottled. This one is definately Mille Fleur colored. I wasn't sure any would hatch, Rebecca is so small and these are almost her first eggs. She sure has been sticking to the nest.
I had to run over to Jack's and say "Ha, I've got chicks before you do!" His first are due out of the incubator just before the next Newcastle auction.
