Fortunately we haven't seen nor smelled skunk yet unless it's on the highway. Haven't seen evidence of the racoons or possom yet either. I usually trap a few each spring in the garden. We did see 5 coyotes trailing acrosss the pasture yesterday morning. Guns are at the ready.
Wow! Some of y'all have LOTS of chicks! What on earth are you going to do with all of them?
.
I KNEW better than to look at hatching eggs! It's NoCityBoys fault for reminding me of the Dark Brahama-not my fault and I refuse to take responsibility.
Sooner, was it you or Poco who had the Double Laced Barnevelder? I'm thinking of buying 6 eggs. I remember that picture one of you posted and that was a gorgeous bird. Reminded me of my Dark Cornish except on a regular sized chicken.
Nice purchase Wayne...never saw a blue satin...would you post pictures?Didn't buy anything from the auction but did buy two minim satin rabbits from a lady who was going out of business. One is Siamese colored and the other is a blue. So now I have a good start of that breed with a buck and three does.
Glad to hear your flock is doing great. Roger thinks I'm getting a lot of birds too...MawahahahahawNana my flock is doing well, i think i have to many breeds and to many birds total , hatching a few ever week. in Okie talk it aint real smart
I see broody as the hen's version of PMS and considering it is or soon will be spring.... its logical that they are "in the mood" at this time of year.
Are there supplements or light therapy or some other technique You use to get them off of broody? I would think that just like the light plays a role in our cabin fever / seasonal depression... it must play a role in triggering broodiness in hens.
Any insight from other BYC hobbyists?
