Been getting the baby section of the coop ready for my new girls. Will pick them up tomorrow.

In the meantime, here's a pic of the 3 I have left from my last batch from the neighbor kid that didn't get eaten by the other neighbor's dog or blown away during the winter storms over the last couple of years. That's why I built the run. I love letting them run all over the yard, but it's too risky. Took this today while I was out working on the coop.

Well I am having a hard time recovering from last night at the auction. I feel worse then if I had went to the club last night. All the dust and of course not getting home til after 2 am kicked my bum, today.
I did score 5 bags of old bread and snack cakes for the chickens. Considering each bag weighed about 20lbs plus and I paid $2.50 for 3 bags and $2 for two more that is really cheap supplement to the chickens and llamas' diets. And of course they love bread.

There were two baby chicks hatched today. Fat little cochin babies. Hopefully the rest will hatch this week cuz they are going to the auction on Saturday. Also found 2 dozen eggs since I did not collect all the eggs yesterday. Right now my millie fleur cochin hen is sitting on 5 LF black cochin eggs.

Can not wait for those to hatch!!! Guess I will be taking eggs to the auction as well. Since there is no way I am going to be able to eat all these eggs.

Llamas tried to make an escape today. Fortunately two of my neighbors helped me get them back into the yard. Stupid llamas

Think I will take a dozen eggs down to them for helping out.

What about aluminum....you can get it in big sheets in a heavy grade with the ridges like on toolboxes. ..probably less expensive than the stainless.



Big Lots trees are ball and bagged...and need to be treated tenderly for a full season. You can dig a huge hole and spread out the roots and then keep mulched and waterd 1" every week all season. They will grow. Atwoods has nice trees but the pots are small...need to be opened and roots spread some also. Good prices on both.

Yes all mints are invasive. You can make a space for them where they can grow without invading other plantings. someplace that can be weedwacked withour damaging other plants. They send out root runners....when they get ready to bloom, you can whack them back to 1/2 height and they will grow larger leaves again.

Humm, that is an idea. I think we are all just throwing around ideas. Bill has a lot of the stuff already. Cuz he is cool that way.

My girls are still recovering from the late auction, I got yelled at when I tried to wake them. We stayed until they were about done. Actually got out of there early than i expected & DD was happy to get the money for her chicks. Came home with a few good buys IMO. Prices were crazy last night. Now that atwoods has chicks the chick market has dropped but eggs & birds were selling higher.
I may test out the porter hill auction in the future. I know I will have chicks next wk. guess I will see how many we have before we pick an auction. How often will the porter bill auction be? Who ever is in charge needs to get to a few of these small post offices & put up flyers! In cement if it isn't on the post office bulletin board then it isnt happening. Everyone here misses the auction!
No city boy that sink went for $6!!!!!! I so wanted it, but DH said no way. Think he just didn't want to move the heavy thing. The auger went way cheap-- they did say it was in need of tlc. The other items in the same spot went cheap as well.
Coral I didn't take a pic of it (oops). Last night there was a ceramic hand made & painted guinea hen. Very good looking IMO. DD wanted it but I stopped bidding @$13. It was maybe 6-8 inches tall. Have you ever seen anything similar? I tried to google for a guinea hen mold & didn't come up with much. If the mold could be found to cast a few we would be very interested.

Think I will go on ebay and see if I can find any more poultry stuff cheap. Dang there was a really cool stainglass rooster lamp but it went for almost $40. I find stuff at the thrift store all the time. Guess I need to start buying that stuff up and bring it to the auction. Cuz the prices for some of those things were crazy.

I'm not sure what you saw. If the guinea you bid on looked like the pictures above, it was probably a Herend.

Coral this was definitely a homemade ceramic piece. It felt like the unpainted ceramic stuff you can get at hobby lobby. It didn't have a glaze finish. It was only painted-- the person that painted it did a good job. But I don't think it was a commercial piece. Can't remember what the initials were-- thinking it was AH. DD wanted it but said it wasn't worth that much to her. So glad at the age of 12 she can budget her $$$$.

Yes... Sometimes you can buy the cages that are for sale. But as a rule if you plan on buying you need to take cages.

I believe that this is the night that I picked the LF Lemon Blue Cochin pair. I should have gotten the young pair but was too busy yapping and not paying attention Anybody remember who got them..

While I don't like to drive at night because of night vision issues...sticking my toe in the water...maybe hubby would be willing to drive up one evening just to see folks.


Hey Carl...One of the Jan 27 hatch may be a Blue Columbian with a Wyandotte comb. It is marked like the Columbian but has the blue gray feathering where it should be black. Will need to check to see if it is a roo or a pullet. Which comb did you say was dominate...pea or single? Would this be a good one to hang on to for trying for the single comb Blue Columbian?
