Thank you all for the wonderful advice about trying the online auctions. It is so hard to say no sometimes when I see all the pretty birds! I have to keep reminding myself to choose just a few and get settled then add some more. Problem is I want them now! LOL I never never thought I would be interested in showing and then I had to go and wander around the poultry show at the Shawnee Expo last December.

Maybe I will get lucky and the thought will pass.... Yeah right, that is going to happen.

What are you wanting to get now?

Well those speckled ones of Spunkychickenmama are awesome, I like the black accent on the feathering. Is that a Mille Fluer? I am still trying to figure out which ones lay the light blue eggs, aracaunas or americaunas (sp?). Oooh and these lemon cuckoo orpingtons that I found on ebay. I am really going to have to quit looking at pictures. S

First chick is out in the hatcher. Lots more have pipped. Glad it is warm enough chicks can go straight into the brooder in the barn. When it is way cold out I always keep the chicks in brooder boxes in the house, after a few days I don't find them very enjoyable in my living room.

DH came in tonight & said I was looking tan, guess the all day tractor rodeos are to thank for the new tan.

For those of you that plant bush beans-- what is your favorite kind & why? I plan on doing top crop for a green bean. I love black-eye peas, but no one else here will touch that! I bought some yard long beans to try out, no real expectations. Just an experiment.

I have my hova-bator set up and on since this afternoon. Just to get this temp right. I should be getting in eggs tomorrow. So I know I should let them sit out to room temp. But I've read 4 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours or just over night. What is best? And then I read its best to set your eggs on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Not possible for me but just wondering why they suggested that as a tip on the site I was reading??

Yes the arucana and amerucana both lay blue eggs. EE lay more greenish eggs (or pink, or brown, or blue) but a lot of sellers of EE call them americana. The arucana's here (U.S.) are rumpless actully missing a vertebrea in the lower back, and can have tufts, (which are different from beards and muffs). If you are in the market for armerucanas be very carefull where you get them from so that you don't buy amerucana and get EE.

I got some Duramycin-10 but I have no idea how to measure it. It says 200-400 MG per gallon per day. I also got some VetRX and it says one teaspoon per cup of warm water. I think the tetracyclin would work better but I have no way to measure it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I just checked on this today - 1 1/2 teaspoons per gallon for Duramycin -10.
That seems like a lot of VetRX per cup.
