***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Had a 7 week old CW acting lethargic. Brought her in and gave her honey water and fed her the magic mixture feed from NNBreeder. She is in the hot tub room in a quarantine cage under a lamp. She has perked up a little since this morning and started eatting some chick feed.

We pulled turnip greens in the bed in the yard and tossed them to the cows and the chickens. The two beds in the garden are still nice, but those in the yard were so thick they were beginning to get aphids. Have to get them out of the yard anyway so the grass will grow thru all the dirt we spread.
It was a nice day out in the yard and garden. Was able to clean out a few flower beds....still a lot to do.

Stephanie...ended up with 9 nice asparagus plants and two little ones. Will bring those this evening when I come get the chicks. Have some seed potatoes for Carl too. Will stick in the cabbage plants in case ya'll want some for the garden.

Kass yes that is the type of meat grinder. Altho mine isn't pretty and shinny like that one!You may have to experiment with the grate size to get the size of grind that your birds will eat. And it is great with just ab0out any garden stuff, rinds, citrus peelings, caulflower and broccoli stalks ,squash eatc. Once its ground to bite size the birds readly eat it. I even run corn leaves thru mine and they ate them!

cowboy welc ome to the apena club!lool. Have to agree with everyone else it will make all the difference in the world for you. And its not taht hard to get used to. Just don't lay there and count your breaths and thinking about the next one, just think chickens and you will drift right off!lol

Tired tonight,Mowed the yard, finished turning the garden over. built some nest boxes, moved rabbit cages, ran two trips to town! Now after supper I have to go deliver some guniea pigs! Its rough being a city farmer!lol

Kass if we need to move tpost I put the picket pounder on the post & wiggle it for a little while, but we have sandy soil so probably not a solution for your area.
I am exhausted from my day of gardening. Plastic mulch & irrigation is laid. They ran out of plastic before the full acre was covered, but I will just put melons in the area with no plastic.
About 7 today I went to open a window & saw a skunk out front. Of course the boys saw it too & they ran barking. Bailiff got sprayed & retreated. The other 2 stayed at it for a good 30 minutes. About noon while we were laying the plastic I see the skunk again. This time the chickens are chasing the skunk. I go to the house for the riffle, and return to find the skunk laying down in front of the barn. I am sure it had to been sick. It is a small skunk, but not a baby. First time I ever saw one during the day--- even more interesting to see the chickens after the skunk.
Tonight for dinner is pizza hut-- think I am slacking on my housewife duties!

X 2, but I think it's going to be chinese here.

Been setting my eggs on Wendsdays so they don't hatch when everything else is going on. I hope y'all are getting as good a hatches as I've been. Last week and this week have been a good 90% (although I did have to help a few) Funny thing is, most of them always hatch on Tuesday, a day early.

Got a call this morning and sold 22 already, and it's still a bit crowded. Gonna have to divide them up this evening. Look closely and you'll see about a third are NNs. Got a few frizzles in there too.

Don't cha just gotta love em?

Spent all day in the garden, and am exhausted now, but didn't plant anything!!!!!

Mostly cleaning out, making gates, getting beds ready etc..... got lots done, have lots more to do.

I was preparing the "summer" run/garden burying tires to provide some shade for the girls this summer, and it was one of the beds I had been able to keep up w/ weeding last year, so while I was digging I found very few runner grass roots to dig out (usually I dig out my weight in those suckers) anyway I got to thinking....................... wow this must be how normal people feel when they garden (no runnergrass roots to dig out) then started literally laughing out loud when the thought came to mind that very few "normal gardeners" would be out burying tires for shade for their chickens!!!!!

Gently put the edge of a thin knife like maybe a steak knife in the center seam where they meet and try prying it apart that way. (like jiggling it)

wemt to the dr. today, he decided i only need shots in my knee. he gives me cortisone, ouch!, said it might take 3-4 days for the shot to work. wellllllllll he might have been wrong! knee hurts about 20 times as bad as it did, he asked if it ever "popped" or "locked up", and it hasnt until after the shot!

i sure hope this isnt the beginning of something bad.

Got them open. Tried the knife and no bueno. But my 11yo opened them like it was nothing and she was just a gentle as ever. I have over 62 eggs. Man. The lady in VA that I got my blue and black Silkies from gave me an extra dozen!!! So happy. I have about 4 tiny tiny eggs. They are marked and ready for the incubator tomorrow.
My smallest egg. I've never seen such a small egg.
