***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I drove to town earlier, all the nearly dry ponds are either about to overflow or are overflowing. I live on a hill side and my yard is a bog, chickens and goats are all dry though. Sure needed this rain but why on the week I chose to take off. I was planning to start work on a 13 X 30 out building.

One clap of thunder and I have a 70 lb shaking terrified dog in my lap trying to sit on my head!!!

Both my labs keep running in here if theres a loud thunder, I have them hanging out in the laundry room right now and minus that they are staying put.

need i say more??
my sister was in vet school, and had 6 roommates, all female, all younger than my sister, all about my age, and me fresh out of highschool.
mom couldnt figure out why i wanted to go visit my sister since we didnt even like each other. mom was a little slow sometimes!!!

HAHAHA

Kass are you painting your tires to help keep from absorbing the heat? Not sure how you are set up in town, I use to plant bush squash along my fence, looked almost like a hedge.

There was a Craigslist ad today for pallets that were 2x4 heavy duty-- would be good for pens or compost. My compost is a pallet type set up & everyday it is the first place my birds flock to when I let them out. Technically if you follow the rules of quick composting you birds shouldn't play in the compost, but I am a lazy composter. I don't care if the stuff sits there for a few yrs.
My other compost was just a few tpost with some field fence in a circle. Lasted a yr then DH caught the fence with the mower. Took $200 in parts for the mower & I moved the compost away from anywhere he might get close with the mower.

Tonights dinner split pea soup & cornbread. Perfect for a cold rainy day.

isnt that the way it is supposed to be? you take off work to do something outside and it rains, snows, or half the state is on fire!

Quote: We won't be at the next one but the one after holler and we will plan on finding each other there. I am slowly learning everyone from here. Once you get into it, it can be dangerous. Of course I can blame my husband because he enables me to buy what I do, lol.
Sounds like you have a good man there.

You'd better keep him.

Hello Okies, Well like everyone else I am just about to float away here! It is great to finally get all this rain. Thanks to help from some fellow okies my lonely bator is full and happy!

Went to the Perkins auction Sat and sold a few birds, bought a few more but did wind up with money in the end. My 13yr old son decided he wanted to go with us to the auction (Big Big surprise there!). He has now caught the auction AND the chicken bug. He has laid claim to the Belgian d'Anvers that Bill sent for the bator and now tells me he wants Polish! Great, now where I am going to find those?! :barnie My MIL went with us and bought some Ameracauna chicks and some hatching eggs. The eggs they were showing were a barnyard mix of all different colors. Well when we got home and she opened them they were all HUGE brown eggs. Wonder what will hatch from those, any ideas?

I have loved reading all the posts and have finally got all caught up. Now I know I can go clean the house and come back to 4 or 5 more pages. :lau My goodness this board moves fast!

Stay dry today!

That sounds great! I am making chili and cornbread here. Kids have been asking for it and thought it was perfect for this weather.
