I think that is the hardest part- i know the breeds i want to specialize in, but i also have some that aren't in that category....i am thinking i'll do some downsizing in june, to make room for the cochins and favs...
Yes, exactly. And I'm not doing these boys any favors by penning them up in bachelor pens. That's not any kind of way to make them live & I don't have girls BIG enough for them because I'm not willing to put my Cochin girls with them. The alternative is to buy big girls *for them and that hardly makes sense. I wish I could find someone to take some of my Silkie boys but hatchery Silkie boys aren't in high demand.

I might be willing to place the 2 girls with him. It's a matter of finding someone who actually *wants them and is willing to take them now.

All that is left are some feeders, 1qt waterers and black rubber tubs.

When you say black rubber tub what exactly is that? I have one pictured in my head that we were looking at for a wading pool for the ducks.

That's what he's been doing, maybe I need to take a crack at him, I'm not as ginger as he is when it comes to things At this point we're looking at replacing the shaft anyway, so if I break it no loss right?

Kass I got a few other things that sound interesting but not sure I will have enough room to get them all planted. Thinking I might try some of the beans I got in a large mineral bucket but not sure on the rest. I will hold off posting in the thread until I bring my list of what I got.

My tree's came in today!!! I might be able to plant a few on Sunday but not sure considering the ground. Might just end up making the fencing that will go around them & start on my raised bed for my asparagas.....

You would be surprised. A child would love to have them. DD has a little mutt bantam roo that is so cute-- we got him from poops last yr from Donnie. That roo is the favorite bird of every kid that visits our place. He also has a steady girlfriend that he follows all over our farm. She was talking about giving him & his lady their own coop, but I am certain if I penned him up he would crow all day while the others free ranged! The biggest problem is I could offer every kids in town a few birds but their parents don't want them! So far I have only ever sent 1 child home with chicks & they already have a flock so of course mom & dad didnt mind.

I have one more tree to plant a liberty apple. I've planted all the asparagus roots I'm planting this year (they are already coming up) found a great deal at Arnold's, but I do have some seeds I'm going to plant (asparagus). I'm hoping it dries enough by Sunday to plant my apple tree, and alot of the garden. I think I'm going to go ahead and put out the tomatoes, may hold off on the peppers for a few weeks, and plant out alot of seeds too, maybe getting about 70% of the garden in this week

My potatoes aren't coming up yet, but I knew they were going to take longer. I read an article about planting them way deep (10-12 inches) that way you don't have to hill them through the growing season, not sure how the onions are doing after all the rain, the comfrey is outgrowing the chickens eating it! Woo Hoo.

I also have an experiment I'm going to work on (shocking I know)

I have been doing alot of reading about natural deworming ideas. I am not squarely in the chemical worming camp, but also not in the hot pepper, DE, garlic camp either. I have researched several herbs that have been used for centuries for deworming humans and animals and that are also fairly easy to grow and will grow in our area, I've ordered the seeds and am going to work on a deworm medicinal herb bed. I can feel you guys in the die hard chemical camp cringing

Lots of rain. Grass needs mowed. Hope it drys out enough pretty quick. Son is almost ready to go back to college from spring break. it would really suck if I have to mow when he is gone.

Cowboy -- I am sure all of us will mow more in the next month than we did all of last yr. I mentioned to DH that I was going to need to mow twice a wk to keep the fescue down. He said don't bother. Just brushhog it in a few wks. Doubt I will take his advice. Our place is always full of snakes & I prefer to be able to see them in the low grass not step on them in the weeds.

Heading out the door to go pick up some of the girls friends. So much for finishing my garden work today.
