***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thank you to whomever suggested drawing a line around the middle of the egg before setting them with a broody. That distinctive mark has been much easier to see at a glance than the dates I have always placed on the eggs in the past.

What a good idea! I have been putting a big "X" and that works only 1/2 the time. Sometimes the "X"and date is turned to the underside. I found two old china markers, a purple and a blue, in my art supplies. They sure work better than pencils but I don't remember where or why I got them. ( don't think I will run out any time soon though )

sorry to hear of all the problems... We have been a certified hatchery for some time now, And I will openly state you got taken.. A chick box with pad is $4 at cost, and the chcik heating pads are $2. Express (3 day agurantee) for a 25 count of chicks is fixed at 8.50 less if you ship mass quantities and prepay for shipping. all the prices I provided are for small quantities. The PO should never allow shipments of live animals chciks included that are not express.
I no longer sell or ship chicks with the exception of shipments to good friends who are helping to work on some varieties of birds that need the help. But I never had a shipment cost me more that $15 total for chicks.

As to the amount of email the hatchery recieved that is no surprise, you are an Okie, and this thread is very active even for many who either do not post or no longer post. We are all quite similar, easy going and good friends to have as the last group of individuals that you want to know of problems caused by others unless you want them to experience some reprocussions. We are all nice on the front end but once set off it is not likely a pretty site.

I don't post often..but do read a lot...would fall into Carl's explanation...saying all that to say this, I am a member of a couple other forums where we talk about birds...and relayed your hassles publicly with that so called hatchery...funny thing, they say hatchery in the name, but when you read their front page they say they're a small farm...either way....they should have known better than to mess with a well thought of Okie...especially one that has friends and those friends have connections all over the states in the poultry / game bird communities...Hope they make it right with you regardless of what the mail clerk says.

first fav chick greeted me this morning, broody has 5 to go- his color surprised me.... and she wasn't happy i snuck him out for a photo... his coloring surprised me as i thought they all hatched yellow??

Bill glad the hatch wet well. Once you get the hatcher sat up you can stagger & hatch every wk. do you plan on loading the incubator back up this wk?

Next set goes in tonight, all these eggs are fresher than most of the ones I started out with last hatch also.

Elwood, are you bringing any of those Buff Orpingtons to POOPS? I sure would like a pullet or two. I'm sure your ideas for the raffle are going to be great, I can't wait to see what everybody comes up with.

I should have some of each to take to POOPS I don't know if they will be straight run or not though

it happens- and sometimes they wait another day or two before hatching, patience..

I'm just so afraid they're dead, then again there's nothing to do if they are, so might as well wait
