***OKIES in the BYC III ***

It appears that my brain is short circuiting this morning. I can't seem to get the multi-quote thing to do what I want to do so I'll post a different way.

Oakieridge - I am moving to the lake house at Lake Eufaula. It sits on two lots. There are a lot of trees on part of it and is near the water. It's not a huge amount of property but enough for me, my cats and chickens. Eventually I'd like to get more land somewhere else, but this fine for now.

Oceanseve - Congratulations on your new (or new to you) house and glad you survived the selling/moving process. It's gruelling.

RetiredArmyWife - It's tough getting a house ready to sell, especially when you have a little one to keep up with and other responsibilities. I don't have children at home anymore but just getting and keeping everything done is tough. You're right, it's hard to show a house with all of that going on. Lookers want to see a house in pristine condition, it seems.

One of the things I like most about the house at Lake Eufaula is being able to see lots of stars. There are lots more to see there than in the city and they're beautiful. It's nice to sit out on the porch at night and see them all. I wish you luck meeting your goals so you'll be able to enjoy them too.

We have land at Eufaula as well. DH's mom lives down there near it full time and loves it. We love going down there, and staying for a few weeks each summer. Didn't get to last summer now that I work 4 days a week and would have to drive from Eufaula to Shawnee. But we love our time down there. Our property just past Bell Star.

Looking for a few hens in OKC. Does anyone know where I might be able to find some? This will be our first time raising chickens and I am super excited. The coop is built and ready to go, just need to find some chickens. I have done lots of research but any advice would be great. Thank you :)

My partner at work is from CA, I forget the town but one of the really big ones, anyway he never saw stars until moving here last year, and only ever saw 4 bird types, swallows, pigeons, and I forget the two others, but he was excited to see robins, like they were some sort of zoo bird. All the common birds, animals and plants (I mean really common) he gets excited at seeing, it is amusing to watch. Really makes you think about what we take for granted.

Wow! I grew up in a fairly large suburb of Detroit, but we had a variety of birds, rabbits, raccoons. We didn't see the rabbits and raccoons every day but we saw the birds.

There is an auction in Newcastle Sat. night that will have full grown hens, or you can buy chicks to raise yourself.

Okla, or Nanakat, or anyone else w/ experience w/ vining okra (luffa) am I correct in assuming like other gourds it just laughs at OK heat and summer? If given water through the bad heat will it stay green and lush? Wanting to use a trellis to make shade, but want to make sure when they need the shade the most it is still shady.

Do you know what variety of chicken you would like to have? There are several folks with birds in the OKC area or near enough to you. Also one of our nice enablers brings chickens to Mary's swap meet on Saturday and Sundays on NE 23rd in Choctaw.

It's a pain in the ***! We got my parents and DH's parents to watch our three dogs. Then we removed the 3 cats and hid the litterboxes everytime we showed the house. We also hid the guinea pigs in the shower so they were less obvious :p We took the hamsters out of the house everytime we showed it too. It's hard to keep a house show ready with kids, mine are 5,4, and 2. Every time we got a call for a showing I had to pawn my kids off on someone so I could make it half way presentable. Worth it in the end tho!

I have nobody to watch the dogs or cats. Nobody to watch the 4 year old either. However you definitely had it harder with all those babies! Glad you got it sold!

What experience I've had with luffa...it is a more tender vine than most gourds. It is more like a cucumber vine. It does need a trellis to help make the luffas straight.

I have just set my seed, planted in pots to set out when it is a little warmer.

A sweet potatoe vine can be trained to go up and over a short trellis...while the root grow in the ground to be dug in the fall. It is very heat tolerant also.

I'm planting sunflower seed along the fence of one of my pens this year to block the west sun and provide seed heads for the birds in the winter.
