***OKIES in the BYC III ***

just wanted to say hi. Been sitting here catching up on homework and checking my eggs. We hear peeps every now and then but nothing yet.

Katie, awesome pen! What kind of wire is that? Is it hardware cloth? I just love how you used twigs on the ramp-great idea!
I'm looking for some 1" x 1" cage wire in 48" tall. Does anyone know if there's such a thing? A wire company or something? Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, etc only have the cage wire in 30" tall.

Mitzi, when I needed hardware cloth recently I went to TH Rogers Lumber in Eufaula. They were very friendly, helpful and reasonably priced. They didn't have what I was looking for in stock (1/4" mesh X 36" high hardware cloth in a 100 ft roll) but they ordered it for me. It was ready for pick up at the store in two days. They have stores all over the state including one in Edmond, which shouldn't be too far of a drive for you. It's worth giving them a call to check their prices.

Glad you found us on the Okie thread. I really like your coop/run setup! Very cute and functional. Your chickens will be proud to call it home.

NanaKat - Nice garden!

I know the quoting isn't right but I can't post at all on the forum with my iPad and am using TapaTalk. And it never comes out right for some reason. Deanne, just wanted to say thanks for the company info and I'll call them! The 2 Serama babies are doing wonderful, I keep forgetting to let you know. Their gray/tan colors are beautiful! We put them together because they were lonesome and peeping like crazy. So then my daughter Chick-Napped the little girl along with her little boy. I tried Channing with an OEGB hen and he beat her up! He didn't want anything to do with her. So I guess I'm all the hen he needs and he'll stay my spoiled little bachelor. I don't want to risk him ever hurting the Serama girl when she's perfectly happy with her brother.

Bill - Princess sounds like an intelligent dog. If she can conceal her egg habit from you, then she is trainable. You'll just have to be diligent. She knows right from wrong in this situation, otherwise she wouldn't be hiding to eat the eggs. Let us know how you decide to break her of this habit.

Nana - Thanks for posting the pictures of your garden. I'd love to build some raised beds... maybe next year. This year all my seed went into the ground in traditional rows. I am still working out the details for a rabbit proof fence (This is where you're supposed to laugh), and I figure I have about seven or eight more days before that project must be complete. I can see a few cucumber plants coming through the soil. The rest of my veggies will be up looking for sunshine soon.

City & Monty - I spilled my coffee when I read the combined posts. Both of you need to be on more often. Laughing is supposed to prevent illness. You can both contribute to the wellness of the members of the thread by tossing jokes back and forth. Keep them coming.

I've got a big Easter hatch in lock down. I'm anxious to see these new babies. I've got EE, Ameraucanas, Orpingtons, OE, and something else I can't remember from BYC members who swapped through the Easter Hatch A Long thread. I just got word that some of my ducklings (eggs I shipped to swap partners) are already out of the shell. Pekin and Swedish duck babies are the sweetest, funniest, messiest babies a brooder has ever held. I'll be setting some soon
