***OKIES in the BYC III ***

LOL we already have it all sprayed down with oxine and plugged in. We figured it would take a few days to get it up to running temp. We would love to borrow the thermometer, if you have a good source for one let me know and I will order it tomorrow. Thanks for all the help you have been!!!

I will loan the one to tune it with and show what has always worked best for me and where to get one.

For such a small bird just egg shells should be enough for them or sift the oyster shell in a tea strainer and give the bigger pieces to the LF if you have them.. I used to grind chicken feed in a blender for my meal worms and the blender I used I got real cheap at a yard sale the wife was glad I wasn't using hers she thought the chicken feed was too nasty to use her blender LOL I once set a plate of leftovers on the floor for the dog to clean up and when I wasn't looking she soaked it in bleach as if just hot water and dish soap wouldn't be able to clean off the dogs saliva
Reminds me of a story about a young man who visited his grandfather on the farm.
They had breakfast and he offered to help his grandfather clean up the kitchen.
"Nope, you go explore and I use coldwater to clean them."
Lunch, same thing.
When the young man started to leave his grandfather's dog would not let him near his car.
He called to his grandfather " Your dog won't let me leave."
Grandfather yelled "Coldwater git back on the porch!"

Mitzi I think those eggs came from Bo but I could be wrong. I say set them on Friday, since you must test out that new incubator.
I will be curious to see if the repaired egg hatches.
Neighbor came did a temporary fix on the fence. I am sure with dozens of calves running around we will have more visiting our yard soon. Now I am trying to get the girls to eat dinner & get ready for bed. They are so cranky having testing at school all wk.

Hope the temporary fix lasts a while...sometimes they become permanent.
My husband's motto is "Good fences make good neighbors".

Ran errands today to get some brooder lights. Shawnee Atwood's had NN and several other breeds of baby chicks...No, I resisted. When I got home, spent several hours getting brooder spaces ready for new chicks coming that Carl is hatching. Still haven't candled the ggs under the broodies....will do that in the morning.

OK I bought two ducklings yesterday. Is there any reason that I can't just house them in the same yard with my chickens? I had a duck for years before and she just had a doghouse and a chicken wire yard, but I didn't have chickens then. They're still in the house right now.

If you are going to put chicks and ducklings in the same brooder, my recommendation is to have all of them on wire rather than in a flat bottom tub. The ducks like to splash the water out of the waterers and the chicks get wet and too cold when there isn't a way for the water to drain off the living area. As for putting them in the same yard, I found it was very difficult to keep the waterer clean when ducks had access to it. They dip their beak to clean off their nostrils and seem to leave mud behind in the waterer.

Guess what??? I have returned! lol
How is everyone this spring?
((<<<Seriously needs to check in more often...

Stray, you need to get signed up for T-shirts for POOPS on May 5. It will be at the Choctaw City Park this year (not to be confused with the KOA in Choctaw)

oh wow, nice bees. Where'd you get them? That's on our list of things to do next year.

There is a a wonderful local beekeeper club that meets the 3rd Tuesday evening at the Fairgrounds in Guthrie, from 7-9 pm. Several OLD-time beekeepers attend that club and it is always entertaining and enlightening to hear them speak. Now would be a good time to learn about the bees and then you will know about how many hives you want to order for the Spring.

I'm home and I have NN's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU Poco, they are gorgeous and I made friends w/ dubias, they went crazy for the dubias.

Heading outside w/ the chicks and the camera will post them later.

Your NN chicks are darling. I think my personal favorite is chick # 3.
A big round of applause to Poco for assisting you in the acquisition of NNs

It moved, I swear!!!! lol

They spent the afternoon gobbling every bug and all the greens they could find and they looked everywhere in the temporary run I put them in.

I will loan the one to tune it with and show what has always worked best for me and where to get one.
Thanks!!! Just let us know when chicks are ready and we will see you then!

Kass what cute little chicks!!! I have never found NNs cute but those are tempting, lol. I was going to go to Atwoods tomorrow for pine shavings but since they have NNs I better stay way hubby might not be to happy if I came home from work with chicks, lol. Esp. when we have LOTS of them at Carl's and still have about 60 in the brooders down stairs, that doesn't count the ones outside in brooders, lol.

Kass, they're adorable! Especially that last picture lol! You can sure tell male from female on them, huh?

Cathie, I'd laugh at you for already having a huge cabinet incubator except it's quite possible you'd just have to turn around and laugh at me over the same thing in a few months

I PM'd Bo Garrett and he doesn't raise Silver Laced so the eggs weren't his. I'll just hatch and wait and see :)
If wing length is any indication (as I've read) I'm pretty sure 2 of my 4 Light Brahmas are males, they're right at about 2 wks old. I got them at the auction last weekend. Does anyone want them? I don't want males, period. I don't even want suspected males.
